Advise the Company on legal proceedings within the area of expertise;
- Participate in setting up best practices for collections and contract enforcement;
- Participate in the pre-claim investigation by taking statement, gathering documents and evidence;
- Deal with bankruptcy trustees, providing an advanced knowledge about file proof of claims on bankruptcy cases;
- Organize and index documents such as exhibits and trial binders;
- Serve as a liaison between the trial team and various third parties such as witnesses, client, and experts;
- Assure that during the trial documents exhibits and evidence are set up;
- Prepare and issue subpoenas as needed;
- Assist in preparing witnesses;
- Research various aspects of the case;
- Aid in drafting interrogatories and create requests for admissions and other discovery;
- During trial take detailed and comprehensive notes on behalf of the attorney;
- Gather and organize data and information needed for settling a case;
- Draft various legal documents such as demand letters to defaulted clients, settlement agreements and releases;
- Represent the Company in court, at tribunals and before administrative bodies;
- Filing documents with the court, as needed;
- Negotiate settlements with defaulted merchants, as directed;
- Oversee Risk Management activities, as required;
- Generate correspondence, as directed;
- Assist with document revisions, as required;
- Prepare affidavits of documents and maintain document files and case correspondence;
- Set up meetings and attend meetings with clients;
- Maintain a calendar hearings dates and filing deadlines;
- Interview clients;
- Coordinate with attorneys and courts in other provinces when required;
- Maintain client relations;
- Perform general office duties, as required;
**Requirements**:

- Must be a member of the Canadian Bar Association;
- License to practice;
- 2+ years of direct work experience in Law;
- Necessary legal skills and knowledge in collecting and enforcing client contracts
- Leadership skills to direct a team of people including a paralegal and clerk
- Working knowledge of provincial and federal laws and terminology;
- Thorough understanding of statutes, court decisions, ordinances, resolutions, and legal documentation;
- Strong understanding of legal reference materials, procedures, and legal filing systems;
- Critical thinking, analysis, and research skills are essential;
- Strong sense of ethics and the ability to handle sensitive or private information with tact and discretion, knowledge of data privacy laws;
- Superior interpersonal skills to interact with clients, attorneys, coworkers, and external agencies;
- Good research skills on the Internet and traditional sources of information;
- Excellent writing skills, including proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation for complex documentation;
- Ability to practice in other provinces in addition to Ontario is a plus
- Superior time management skills, multi-tasking skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks with mínimal supervision;
- Professional, responsive, and positive work attitude is critical.
