This role entails HSE Coordination for the overall wellbeing, safety and security of employees, contractors, and visitors at a business or other organization in direct workplace affiliation with Ascent Transport Ltd. This role is responsible for implementing regulations outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Laws in Alberta, Federal Transportation regulation, creating and following safety protocols, as well as ensuring they are followed, and providing training to employees and contractors on safety related issues.
This role for Ascent Transport Ltd. is that of a knowledgebase; the successful applicant must be well-informed on all Transportation Canada requirements, The Occupational Health and Safety Act, and The Hazardous Products Regulation. The coordinator serves as a resource for staff on all of these regulations, providing interpretation, advice, and support when questions arise. The successful applicant will also provide advisement and education on personal protective equipment, elevating awareness on safety issues as they pertain to Ascent Transport. The HSE Coordinator must create and implement protocols for a variety of scenarios. This includes assessing potential occupational risks, planning for potential emergencies, providing guidance on record keeping, and removing or reducing these risks. They must also make sure that safety protocols are followed, ensuring that employees and contractors are adhering to the comprehensive and modernized Health and Safety Management System of Ascent Transport Ltd.
The HSE Coordinator must also provide or maintain safety training records via Workhub to all staff at Ascent Transport Ltd., such as ensuring current and adequate training in personal protective equipment, hazardous materials, first aid, Common Safety Orientation and H2S, lifting and moving objects safely, and identifying and avoiding risks. This training must also be regularly updated and renewed.
Finally, the health and safety coordinator must perform periodic inspections to ensure that all safety regulations are being adhered to. This includes inspecting all property, machinery, and equipment to ensure they meet safety and health standards; verifying that all safety training has been completed, measuring the workplace atmosphere to ensure air quality is acceptable, and taking corrective action if any safety related issues are identified. By fulfilling the roles and responsibilities of a health and safety coordinator, organizations and businesses in Alberta, ensure their employees, contractors and visitors health and safety is adequately protected and maintained. The health and safety coordinator is vital to ensuring a seamless monitoring and implementation of the HSMS, A safe and secure work environment is our expectation and Ascent Transport is seeking the ideal fit for a long term team member.
