**Position Overview**:
HSLM is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Development to provide strategic leadership for our fundraising and marketing/communications portfolio, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. This senior leadership role is pivotal in acquiring major gifts, fostering donor relationships, and overseeing the development and execution of our annual fundraising plan in alignment with our strategic plan. The Director will also be responsible for managing the Development department's budget and leading a dedicated team to achieve our mission-driven goals.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Leadership & Direction: lead the development and implementation of comprehensive fundraising strategies encompassing annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, corporate sponsorships, and donor stewardship.
- Annual Fund Development Plan: Lead the development and execution of an annual fundraising plan that aligns with HSLM’s strategic objectives.
- Donor Relations: Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and community partners to secure financial support and promote long-term engagement.
- Major Gifts Acquisition: Identify, solicit, and secure major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations, including preparing proposals and negotiating gift agreements.
- Strategic Oversight of Events & Social Media: Provide high-level strategic direction for fundraising events and social media initiatives, ensuring alignment with overall fundraising and engagement goals while overseeing staff responsible for execution.
- Budget Management: Develop and manage the Development department's budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources and achievement of financial targets.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor Development staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary degree or diploma in fundraising, communications, public relations, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in fundraising, with a proven track record in securing major gifts and managing donor relations.
- Demonstrated experience in team management, including recruiting, coaching, and inspiring staff.
- Proficiency in budget development and financial management within a non-profit context.
- Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage diverse stakeholders.
- Experience with donor management software (e.g., Donor Perfect) and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google G Suite.
- Self-motivated, results-oriented, and adaptable, with a genuine affinity for animal welfare and the mission of HSLM.

**Working Conditions**:

- Full-time position requiring flexibility to attend meetings and events during evenings and weekends as needed.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle.
- Comfortable working around animals of various species.
