Shwx'eyelhtxw Cultural Support Worker

**Position Summary**
Under the direction of the Cultural Trauma Therapist, the Cultural Support Worker will operate efficiently in accordance with the philosophies, policies, and objectives as set out within the health and social development department.
The primary goal of the Shwx'eyelhtxw Trauma Cultural Support Worker is to ensure that the Trauma Treatment Center, and clients are provided with a caring and learning environment. The Shxw’eyelhtexw Trauma Cultural Support Worker will help to facilitate the clients to enable their participation in activities while they work toward their healing from trauma.
Seabird Island Band is an alcohol and drug-free environment - Cultural Support Worker must maintain a reasonable standard of professional practice and will act as a role model.

**Qualifications/Requirements**
Administration
- Provide leadership in program development and Centre operations
- Prepare for each group of clients including organizing client intake, preparing the home for new temporary residents, scheduling activities, and troubleshooting issues as they arise.
- Ensure effective daily operations.
- Contribute to ensuring the Center meets regulation covering health, fire, safety requirements.
- Contribute to maintaining confidential, professional, and accurate client files
Program
- Coordinate and schedule programing for clients to meet their physical, social, emotional, creative, and cognitive needs
- Trauma-informed, culturally sensitive and able to use a holistic approach
- One-on-one support for clients as needs arise.
- full range of cultural teachings, practices and ceremony protocol that will assist with the trauma work
- Trauma Based informed practice understanding of intergenerational trauma and the impacts of colonization and how to respond to the reaction of the client
- provide cultural and traditional practices, introduce areas of connection to the land and resources
Other
- Valid First aid and CPR Certification
- Experience working with a collaborated team
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to adhere to Oath of Confidentiality and Seabird Island Band Policies and Procedures
- Knowledge, respect, and understanding of Stó:lō culture, traditions and language is considered an asset
- Experience working with First Nations community is considered an asset
- Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Criminal Record Check
**Primary Responsibilities**
- Ability to incorporate programming ideas
- Trauma training/thorough understanding of trauma in First Nations
- Experience in running a family, or group home or similar residential program
- Proven ability to successfully manage multiple priorities.
- Strong leadership, planning and communication skills.
- High professional and ethical standards.
- Provide various methods of approach to bring awareness to reaction of trauma
- Work independently with mínimal supervision
- Ability to use the client-centered approach
- Ability to mediate conflict between clients if needed
- Provide safe space for First nations individuals to address their trauma
- Ensure all equipment and facilities are always in safe proper working order
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor, Manager, Director, or the CAO
