**Job Position**:
**Sports Instructor, Trail Maintenance Worker at the Walden Trails**
This position is made possible by a Canada Summer Jobs Grant and this job is contingent on the Club obtaining this grant.
Interviews will be held in late March, with a job offer made before the end of April.
**Job Requirements**:
The applicant must:
- be legally entitled to work according to the eligibility requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs Program, relevant Ontario legislation and regulation
- be between 16 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period,
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment, and
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
The Club relies on the Canada Summer Job grant to fund this position and **international students are not eligible participants in the Canada Summer Jobs program.** International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies on a study permit and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible.
The worker must:
- hold a valid driver’s license
- be physically capable to work outside doing landscaping-type tasks such as mowing, trimming, shoveling, raking and brush clearing
- wear prescribed PPE and follow safety work standards provided by supervisor
PPE provided includes:
- Safety glasses
- Hard hat
- Hearing protection
- Face shield
The worker is responsible to provide the following PPE:
- Safety Boots with 8” cuff and CSA Green Triangle certification indicating sole puncture protection with Grade 1 Protective toe cap
- Work Gloves
The worker must:
- be able to work independently on assigned work
- bring a working mountain bike to work on bike skill instruction days
- be comfortable riding a mountain bike on single track trails
The worker is expected to work for 8 weeks and not require a vacation week.
**Other Beneficial Skills**:
- Experience as a skills instructor for mountain biking or other sports
- Experience working with children
**Position Details**:
- The employee will report to the WMBC President
- Work location is the Walden Trails at 1 Denis Ave, Naughton, ON
- 40 hours/week for 8 weeks at $16.55/hr
- Job starts Wed 2 Jul 2024 and ends Tue 27 Aug 2024, but this is negotiable
- Options for weekend and evening work in June
- Flexible working hours, with evening and weekend work
- Training is provided for all tasks including teaching Mountain Biking skills
**Job Tasks**:
- Provide a daily summary of work completed and submit to supervisor
- Provide instruction at YMCA Day Camp mountain bike skills clinics for young riders during the weeks of: Jul 7-11, Jul 21-25, Aug 11-15, Aug 18-22
- Work done by the team of trail maintenance workers includes:
- Mowing lawn at the trailhead and in stadium area
- Garbage clean-up in parking lot
- Collect garbage from garbage pails in parking lot and stadium areas
- Tool sharpening
- Clear trails of wind-fall branches
- Trim ferns & grass on side of trails
- Remove leaf debris from trails
- De-root, re-rock and sections of trails and correcting water retention issues
- Assemble and installing boardwalks
- Replace faded trail signs
- Replace rotted sign posts
- Develop the trail information for Trailforks Application: add trail descriptions, pictures, POI for features
- Correct trail hazards and report trail hazards that need to be repaired by others
- Assist with Trail Development
- Assist in setting up and take-down of courses for race events
- Assist with timing and results at race events
- Assist with miscellaneous building maintenance jobs on Ski Club Buildings including painting
- Other tasks will be added as required
**Job Type**: Seasonal
Contract length: 8 weeks
Pay: $17.40 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
