The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Regional Commander of Central Region seeks a qualified individual to manage court case files, provide liaison services with the court, and monitoring the progress of files through the court system. About Us: The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is one of North America's largest deployed police services with more than 5,800 uniformed officers, 2,400 civilian employees and 830 Auxiliary officers. We provide essential services that ensure the safety and security of the people of the Province of Ontario. The Northumberland Detachment is a cluster consisting of three fully operational sites located in the southeast area of Central Region. The Administration Centre is located in Cobourg, with Satellite Detachments in Brighton and Campbellford. Northumberland Detachment provides policing services through contracts to six locations: - The rural area of the Municipality of Port Hope - The Township of Hamilton - The Township of Alnwick-Haldimand - Cramahe Township - The Municipality of Brighton - The Municipality of Trent Hills The Peterborough County OPP Detachment currently provides policing services to seven municipalities within Peterborough County. - Asphodel-Norwood: 4,109 - Douro-Dummer: 6,709 - Municipality of Trent Lakes: 5,397 - Havelock, Belmont, Methuen: 4,530 - North Kawartha: 2,479 - Otonabee-South Monaghan: 6,670 - Selwyn: 17,060 Peterborough County surrounds the City of Peterborough, which has a population of 81,032. Peterborough County Detachment services an area that is 3,783 square kilometers (km) in size. Peterborough County's current population base is approximately 55,783 citizens, which increases by an additional 30,000 during the summer season. Peterborough County Detachment area encompasses four Provincial Parks: - Petroglyphs Provincial Park - Mark S. To provide court security services and to participate in the escort of offenders. **How do I qualify?**: **Mandatory**: - Ability to pass an OPP background security investigation. - Ability to attain and maintain Special Constable status. - Ability to pass and maintain ongoing certification in Use of Force. **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**: Knowledge of legislation related to court proceedings, administration and documentation to coordinate detachment activities at court and ensure appropriate preparation and completion of all required court documents and information. Knowledge of relevant sections of legislation such as the Criminal Code, Youth Criminal Justice Act, Family Law Act, provincial offences and municipal by-laws to coordinate court proceedings, prepare briefs and other court documents. Knowledge of court processes, procedures, operations and scheduling to coordinate and monitor court proceedings. Ability to schedule court dates according to officer availability and reschedule to resolve OPP Career Development Bureau conflicting dates. Knowledge of relevant sections of WHMIS and workplace safety to take DNA samples and escort prisoners. Knowledge of Police Services Act and Health Canada sections related to handling and preservation of evidence, including continuity and security of drugs and proper DNA approved procedures and techniques. Oral communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with and communicate, relay and exchange information, much of which is sensitive and confidential.
