Reporting to the Paper Mill Superintendent, you will be responsible for all supervisory duties of a shift operating crew, and the safe efficient operation of two specialty paper machines, including stock preparation and a finishing department.

The successful applicant will be a highly motivated individual that manages all key supervisory duties (motivates crew, mentors, sets expectations, accountable in terms of Health and Safety, environmental standards, quality standards, operating standards, costs, and technical processes) all within the framework of our Internal Responsibility System (IRS).

**Responsibilities**:

- Provide support, leadership and communication to paper mill hourly employees and ensure expectations are being met with high regard to safety.
- Continuously monitor, evaluate and review; employee performance, progress and behaviour, and if necessary, address issues, initiate corrective actions, discipline and follow-up.
- Maximize the effectiveness of the entire paper mill operations through accurate planning, scheduling and modifications.
- Comply and enforce BRC Food Safety Certification responsibilities and obligations.
- Plan grade changes and provide feedback on effectiveness of the changes.
- Input time, modify manning schedules and move employee resources for best utilization. Modify production schedules or shipping plans based on circumstances.
- Ensure communication on general and specific business information, company policies and knowledge shares (i.e. safety and quality) etc. with employees as required.
- Monitor quality, housekeeping, paper machine efficiency and costs, and paper shipments for problems on a continual basis. Take appropriate action and follow-up when required.
- Prepare and provide reports on shifts, investigate and provide root cause analysis for operating and quality issues, and resolve equipment and mill performance issues by utilizing on-shift resources when possible.
- Review and identify training gaps and opportunities for employees, and create/update employee development plans.
- Actively promote, demonstrate and communicate Domtar’s set of values on a daily basis.
- Other duties, as assigned.

**What We’re Looking For**:

- Completion of a recognized post-secondary institution in a business or technical field.
- Minimum 5 years of related experience.
- Experience and knowledge of paper mill processes and grade structure is a definite asset.
- Experience in a continuous production process operating 24/7/365.
- Advanced experience, knowledge and understanding of safe work practices.
- Experience innovating and implementing operational changes and improvements.
- Ability to prioritize, make sound decisions, and resolve issues efficiently and effectively.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various departments and individuals (internal and external).
- Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to multi-task.
- Analytical, critical thinking and proven problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a team.
- Results focused and detail oriented.
- Excellent computer skills - working knowledge of Optivision, PI, PARCview and SAP would be an asset.
- Occasional travel to outside mills and customer locations may be required.
