About Teaching and Learning Support Services

At the Teaching and Learning Support Service (TLSS), our work in the fields of university education and techno-pedagogy is two-fold: we support the efforts of faculty members so that their teaching methods are more engaging for the student population. Our faculty support allows students to receive a flexible, high-quality education and to benefit from the appropriate use of technology, both of which have a direct impact on the student experience at the University of Ottawa.

Our team is comprised of professionals in the field of university education and specialists in educational technology in an academic environment. The TLSS provides unique and essential content to the University of Ottawa.

About the Project

The University of Ottawa is undertaking a project to strengthen and expand the offer of postsecondary programs in French in Ontario and the rest of Canada. The University of Ottawa will develop courses in the fields of engineering, medicine, and management. To achieve this goal, the project will require a dynamic team of professionals with various expertise and experience such as Project Managers, Educational Development and Digital Learning Specialists, Web Developers, UI/UX Design Specialists, and Multimedia Design Developers.

**Position Purpose**:
**In this role, your responsibilities will include**:
Produces different types of presentations and promotional resources such as PDF documents, ebooks, videos, exhibition panels, information booths and display cases. Provides a full range of web and graphic design services, including professional photographic services.

Understands client requirements and advises clients on the best approaches to achieve their objectives. Evaluates production costs and timeline constraints and advises clients of any changes that may be required to enhance the design and quality of their project. Works closely with a team of instructional designers and programmers to bring projects to a successful conclusion.

Provides advice on appropriate design concepts, technical requirements and other web and multimedia design tools to optimize functionality and to ensure the University is using the best possible medium to communicate with internal and external clients. Exchanges expertise with colleagues and peers to promote the use and acceptance of the University’s branding to ensure consistent and user-friendly design of all Web and academic tools.

**What you will bring**:
College Diploma in graphic design or the equivalent and at least five years’ experience in graphic design in print
- and web-based environments

Relevant experience with digital photography methods and techniques as well as with audio/video filming and editing;
Experience with graphic and image processing software for digital image enhancement and manipulation

Proficiency in web page design and development, including knowledge of HTML/XHTML, CSS and Jumla

Knowledge of Mac and Windows operating systems

Knowledge of XML, JavaScript and ActionScript (an asset)

Experience with web accessibility standards and their implementation (WCAG);
Ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team in a client service based environment;
Ability to establish priorities, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines

Ability to create partnerships and build alliances

Good interpersonal and customer service skills and an ability to communicate technical concepts to users in a non-technical manner both spoken
