Construction Labourer

The Labourer’s main purpose is to complete a variety of tasks pertaining to the completion of construction jobs; this includes lifting, shoveling, digging locates, raking gravel, operating jack hammers, moving barricades, and running plate tampers. Incumbents must be able to tolerate dusty and noisy work situations. Labourers typically work on job sites with equipment and trucks operating in tight areas, so communication is essential with all co-workers. Incumbents must be willing to take a flagging course.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Positively participate in Goal Zero Initiative, including adhering to the Defined Activities as defined for their position.
- Responsible for checking equipment and informing mechanics and supervisors of mechanical problems with the equipment;
- Identifying hazards on site;
- Learning general construction practices involving road construction;
- Understand the issues involving ground disturbance and work in / implement safe work practices; and
- Contribute to a safe work environment.

**Knowledge/Skills**:

- Must have a valid driver’s license (class 5).
- Must have reliable transportation to drive between various worksites.
- Must be physically able to perform all physical actions pertinent to the tools and equipment operated.
- Must be able to meet all safety requirements and applicable safety policies.
- Must be willing to work overtime as required.
- Ability to meet and adhere to all safety requirements and applicable safety policies, including pre-employment drug, alcohol, and medical testing.
