We are currently accepting applicants for a developmental aide in our ECS program. Clients span in age from 3-6 years with a range of diagnoses, including but not limited to, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy and speech/language delays. Services are provided at our Centre located in SE Calgary. Full-time opportunities are available with working hours consisting of 8:15 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

The developmental aide’s main responsibility is to work with children in our program implementing strategies given by the therapists or behaviour consultants to target a child’s individual goals. The aide works in close collaboration with team members to create a program that encourages each child to meet their full potential.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provide a fun, positive environment that encourages connection with a child to facilitate their success.
- Support the development of communication, play, feeding, toileting, social, fine motor, and gross motor skills in alignment with a child’s Individual Program Plan (IPP). Communication skills may involve the use of visuals or an alternative/augmentative communication device.
- Implement strategies provided by teachers, therapists, and strategists to build developmental skills.
- Communicate with teachers, therapists, and strategists regarding a child’s progress and complete specific reporting as required such as data tracking.
- Stay current with child specific updates from teachers, therapists, and strategists.
- Assist with cleaning, organization, and material preparation to ensure the space is ready and safe for the next class.
- Participate in ongoing training opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge about child development, disabilities, and therapeutic strategies.
- Adhere to all of Step by Step’s policies and procedures.

Qualifications/Required:

- High school diploma, additional education in related field considered preferred.
- Able to lift 40lbs, keep up with active work on their feet for the entire shift.
- Must be able to work at a child’s level - i.e., able to be down on the floor to play.
- Able to produce a clear criminal record check including a vulnerable sector check after being hired.
- Experience working with children or individuals with disabilities is preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal.

Skills and Attitude:

- Passionate about working with children with disabilities.
- Excellent understanding of how to work with children and families effectively and respectfully.
- Able to collaborate and willing to learn from others.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Pay: $19.00-$24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 36.25 per week
