Kitchen Assistant

**JOB SUMMARY**

Reporting to the Head Chef, acts as an integral member of the Kids & Company team to assist in the execution of day to day operations of all food preparation at the kitchen. This commissary caters to a large number of childcares in the GTA.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
- Duties may include cooking, baking and food preparation under the supervision of the Head Chef.
- Responsible for daily preparation, portioning and packing food items on the menu and special events
- Assisting in preparing special meals and snacks for children with allergies/dietary restrictions.
- Complies with all health and hygiene requirements under all food safety and handling legislation (First In First Out, taking daily temperature logs).
- Participates in scheduled cleaning and sanitizing of kitchen equipment and general kitchen area.
- Ad hoc duties may be assigned. Duties and responsibilities may change from time to time on the needs of the daycare centres.

**JOB REQUIREMENTS**
- Experience working in a fast paced high-volume kitchen environment.
- ** Requires early morning start time (4AM, Mon - Fri, 8 Hours daily)**:

- Valid Food Handlers Certification.
- Possesses excellent verbal communication and organization skills.
- Experience in a daycare** **or long term care environment would be an asset.
- ** Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.**:

- Current Food Handling Certificate
- Experience in a kitchen environment and ability to use and operate common machines would be an asset
- Pre-security clearance and vulnerable sectors
- Ability to work in a cooperative manner with other staff
- High standard of professionalism
- Enthusiasm for serving public ensuring that all children and clients are cared for equally and in accordance with Kids & Company standards
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to listen and respond appropriately to client, children and staff needs as well as communicate with tact and diplomacy
