**General Responsibility**:The **Ogimaa (Leader)** carries the responsibility of supporting and guiding the Cultural Support Workers while ensuring that culture, ceremony, and teachings remain strong within the organization. Under the direction and guidance of the Elders, the Ogimaa helps to plan, manage, and oversee cultural practices in a way that honours tradition, strengthens community, and supports youth in their healing and growth. This role is rooted in leadership through service, respect, and the upholding of cultural responsibilities.
**Specific Accountability**:
- Work alongside and support the Elders in a respectful way, assisting or leading traditional ceremonies and teachings when called upon.
- Guide and supervise Cultural Support Workers, ensuring cultural needs and workplans are carried out according to the direction of the Elders.
- Care for the calendar of cultural activities and ceremonies so that youth and community have consistent opportunities for connection.
- Help youth access cultural activities and ceremonies, while teaching and modelling proper protocols.
- Ensure the gathering, preparation, and care of traditional medicines.
- Build strong and trusting relationships with youth across Ndinawe programs and sites, grounded in respect, kindness, and cultural teachings.
- Keep accurate records and share monthly reports with the Elders, reflecting the ongoing work and needs of the community.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in staff development as directed by the Elders.
- Act as an encouraging, supportive, and motivating role model for youth.
- Maintain the cleanliness of cultural spaces by participating in the general cleanup.
- Follow all policies and procedures as outlined in the Personnel Policy and site-specific manual.
- Performs other tasks consistent with this job description as per personnel policies and procedures that aligns with the support and growth of Ndinawemaaganag Endaawaad Inc.
**Qualifications Required**:
- Deep knowledge of Indigenous cultural practices and protocols; local knowledge is a strong asset.
- Trusted relationships with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and the Indigenous community.
- Strong understanding of the history and culture of Indigenous peoples in Manitoba.
- Knowledge of an Indigenous language is desirable, as it strengthens the connection to culture and ceremony.
- Seen as a guide and role model for youth, offering encouragement and support through cultural ways of knowing and being.
- Comfortable working in spaces where individuals may be living with hardship, substance use, or vulnerability, while maintaining compassion and strength.
- Knowledge of agencies, programs, and supports available to Indigenous youth.
- Experience working collaboratively within teams of both Indigenous and non-Indigenous members.
- Comfortable with public speaking, teaching, and sharing knowledge when appropriate.
- Actively involved in community life, living as an example of cultural leadership.
- A good listener, communicator, and empathetic supporter of youth and community.
- Committed to collaboration, respect, and the wellbeing of youth, staff, and community.
- Personal qualities that strengthen this role include being trusting, approachable, kind, calming, and having a good sense of humour.
- Proficient in basic computer skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint
- Subject to Criminal Record Check, Child Abuse Registry Check and Prior Contact Check
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
