The Manager of Emergency Services is currently seeking a part time Switchboard Operator. The purpose of the position is to perform switchboard operator and reception duties.

Key Accountabilities:

- Operating multi-line telephone switchboard and directing and transferring calls to correct extensions, taking messages, paging staff in emergency situations or as instructed.
- Answering inquiries, e.g. mailing address, Fax numbers, office hours, pick up locations, alternatives or acting personnel and if unable to answer inquiry, re-direct inquiry to appropriate staff or area.
- Operating two-way radio equipment and the public address system to make announcements.
- Receiving visitors at the front desk, verifying identification and directing to appropriate staff member or office.
- Accessing computerized phone/staff listing to retrieve numbers.
- Recording all information, e.g. long distance calls and daily activities into central ticket management solution. Maintain logbook of signatures to sign keys in and out.
- Maintaining an information list of phone/staff listings.
- Perform clerical duties such as typing and proofreading important documents on a as needed basis
- Provide back up to Forensic Security Office for International Codes, e.g. responding to and clearly announcing emergency calls in the absence of Front Office staff.

- Performs all work at all times in compliance with all hospital policies and procedures and legislation (Occupational Health &Safety Act, Fire Code, WHMIS, etc.) relevant to health and safety, security (including relational/therapeutic security) and potential risk hazards, and in particular, “duties of the worker” as defined in Section 28 of the OH&S Act.
- Support the Manager of Emergency and Security Services or delegate with clerical support as required.

Requirements/Qualifications:

- Minimum of six months’ experience in a similar capacity
- Fluency in both French and English is a requirement
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of multi-line switchboard, two way radio communication equipment, and public address system
- Demonstrated proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Office Suite
- Results oriented work ethic to work independently and undertake tasks needed to accomplish work objectives and deliver quality, consistent, and timely results
- Demonstrated analytical and interpersonal skills
- Proven written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to adapt readily to change
