**Job Description**:
Reporting to the Director of Dietary Services, the Food Service worker performs and assists with the food service preparation, tasks, meals, and meal delivery while maintaining high standards or service, safety and sanitation.
**Requirements**:

- Grade 12 certificate or currently enrolled in an educational institution
- Food safety and handling certificate or willing to obtain one
- Experience in an institutional kitchen is considered an asset
- Food Service Worker course is considered an asset\

**Responsibilities**:

- Maintain daily quality assurance records such as food temperatures, fridge/freezer temperatures and dishwasher temperatures
- Prepare texture modified diets according to standards set by the dietitian
- Understand and follow therapeutic diet principles and standards set by the dietician
- Taste all food using sanitary tasting techniques to ensure the food has acceptable taste and texture
- Prepare vegetables and other food items according to the menu and portion control procedures
- Serve meals to clients, staff, and visitors in an attractive and appetizing manner
- Follow the menu as stated. If substitutions need to be made ensure items are replaced with comparable food items to ensure nutritional balance is met. Record all changes on the menu
- Wash and store all dishes, pots, pans, and utensils using proper sanitation methods
- Clean and set tables for meal service
- Maintain supplies and record supplies that need to be replenished
- Operate, clean, and maintain all equipment within the department
- Unpack and store food supplies using first in first out system
- Receive goods delivered by individually checking off each item according to the packing slip and requests adjustment from the driver when there is an error
- Ensures product is received in a sanitary condition, handled properly and dree of pests refuse delivery if product is unacceptable
- Lock and secure dietary area
- Observe and practice all safety rules and regulations by WHMIS and JOHSC
- Participate in the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee when appointed
- Report fire and accident hazards to supervisor
- Report all equipment regarding maintenance and equipment failure to manager or maintenance services for immediate attention
- Participate in regular meetings within the department and team meetings
- Understand, follow, and make suggestions for dietary policies and procedures
- Date and label open food and discard outdated foods immediately
- Clean and sanitize all surfaces
- Thoroughly sweep and mop floors
- Other duties as required

- Ability to perform physically demanding duties, which includes constant standing, lifting, bending, stretching and moving
