- POSITION OVERVIEW
- BDC’s Indirect Financing business unit seeks to increase BDC’s reach with small & medium sized business (SME’s) by providing capital to financial intermediaries that in turn finance SME’s. Indirect Financing’s core business is the securitization of equipment and vehicle loans and leases originated by Canadian independent finance and leasing companies through BDC’s Funding Platform for Independent Lenders (F-PIL). For smaller and emerging finance and leasing companies, Indirect Financing also offers secured lending facilities under the same platform.
- The Assistant Vice President, Credit & Investment Risk Management (Indirect Financing) acts as the 2nd line of defense for the Indirect Financing business unit, providing effective challenge to the client facing function. Their primary role is to ensure that Indirect Financing transactions are adjudicated and authorized in accordance with the BDC’s risk policies and appetite and to provide oversight, on behalf of the risk function, on the management on the Indirect Financing’s portfolio and securitization platforms.
- CHALLENGES TO BE MET- Adjudicate credit submissions, amendments, exception requests, and other related transactions submitted for authorization by Indirect Financing. This includes both authorizing transactions within their own delegation of authority and preparing recommendations to higher levels of authority, up to and including to BDC’s Board of Directors.-
- Collaborate with the Indirect Financing team and the BDC Head Office compliance function to ensure that that all relevant policies, directive, business rules and procedures required for Indirect Financing’s origination, funding, and portfolio administration activities are drafted, are diligently followed and are updated as required.-
- Collaborate with the Indirect Financing team and with BDC internal counsel to ensure that the policies, practices, and contractual documentation which govern BDC’s relationship with external service partners to its securitization platforms are complete, diligently adhered to, and updated as required.Assist in the preparation and delivery of presentations to senior management & Board committees on risk topics related to Indirect Financing’s activities.-
- Gain and maintain an understanding of the credit rules and risk appetite applicable to BDC’s other lines of business, in particular those of BDC Financing, such that they can act as a back-up authorizer when called upon.- WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR- Minimum bachelor’s degree in finance or business administration-
- 5-7 years of BDC experience. Experience in CRM or in a role requiring the analysis of larger, complex transactions an asset.-
- Knowledge and experience in equipment securitization and/or equipment leasing/financing an asset.-
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in finance or business administration-
- Extensive knowledge and minimum 5-7 years’ experience in the Canadian equipment securitization market, including the structuring, underwriting and adjudication of asset-backed securitization transactions (both rated and non-rated).-
- Strong preference for those with securitization experience in a credit risk management capacity at a major Canadian Financial Institution.-
- Ability to quickly identify the business context and key issues-
- Autonomy, thoroughness and good management of priorities-
