ROLE SUMMARY
To assist the Horticulturalist in maintaining the grounds at all properties with primary focus on grounds
Primarily responsible for assisting, developing and maintaining gardens and grounds while working in a safe, efficient and courteous environment.
Responsible for working as part of the ground’s maintenance team assisting with all phases of grounds maintenance of each property
.RESPONSIBILITIES
Rink Maintenance runs December 1 through to end of March (approximate depending on weather)Rink ice maintenance. Shoveling/clearing snow on the ice and immediate surrounding area. Flood and scrape ice as per schedule or due to demand. Repair ice issues (gouges and holes).Maintain rink ice to a safe and skateable qualityWork with WGE supervision on ice quality and decisions to open or close the rink to skatersMaintain the ice re-surfacing machine (fill with water and empty snow) before and after each useAssist General Maintenance team during rink downtime
Grounds Maintenance runs April 1 to November 30th (approximate depending on weather)Meet with horticulturalist daily to review schedule & follow schedule (s) provided
Maintain cleanliness on properties, sweeping up debris, checking garbage at Peller property, empty cigarette containers on a daily basis on all properties.
Assist in maintaining grounds and gardens through each season
Spring cleaning, preparing beds for planting, removing bulbs, trimming hedges, mulching bedsPrepare beds by cleaning out beds and containers.
Planting annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs. Mulching, weeding, watering and fertilizing beds and containersEnsuring watering, fertilizing and following maintenance schedule for each propertyRemove weeds from interlock pavementsReport any issues, with grounds, machines, plant material, irrigation, work equipment or any other job related concerns to the horticulturalistAssist in grounds projects as directed by horticulturalistPlant and maintain vegetable garden weeding, fertilizing and wateringMaintain all brush and overgrowth along waterways on propertiesAssist maintenance with irrigation system for propertiesMaintain fertilizer, garbage bags inventoryEnsure proper use and storage of grounds equipmentAssist in lawn care on properties understanding procedures and proper use of equipmentUse of mowers, trimmers, and blowersEnsure the cleanliness and safety of grounds and facilities, tools and equipmentSupport the grounds maintenance team as required.Assist with all phases of grounds maintenance, day to day operations as scheduled by horticulturalistEnsure all work is performed in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all other pertinent regulationsOther duties as required.Follows safe work procedures and practices and reports all unsafe working conditions / hazards to their reporting Manager.
