Regional Infection Prevention & Control Practitioner
**Hub/Spoke Model**:
As a part of the province of Ontario’s comprehensive plan in _Keeping Ontario Safe: Preparing for Future Waves of Covid-19_ and to address the immediate challenges of Covid-19 and other infections the creation of Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC) Hub/Spoke models have been developed according to regional areas. Ontario Health has identified organizations including hospitals, public health units and others across the province to lead local IPAC Hubs. The Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) will lead the Northern Central Region IPAC Hub partnering with local and provincial public health units along with other regional stakeholders. The hub organizations will work with partners from across the local health systems who have IPAC expertise to ensure that this specialized guidance and support is available to congregate living settings. The role of the hub/spoke model is to work in collaboration with partners and regional stakeholders to build capacity, create educational opportunities, and provide access to IPAC expertise and the creation and ongoing development of an IPAC Community of Practice. The roles within the IPAC Hub model will report directly to the Professional Practice Department at RVH.
Responsibilities Include:
As an Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) you will be responsible to provide education and expertise and act as a facilitator to reduce the risk of infection and minimize infection transmission within local centres and congregate living settings. The ICP will be expected to provide consultation, surveillance, education, research and evaluation of infection prevention and control processes and procedures to the regional partners and programs. As the ICP within the regional hub model you will act as an excellent resource in infection prevention and control and health promotion, actively collaborate with regional IPAC colleagues and others external to the regional hub mandate.
- Four year Undergraduate degree specific to Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology, Public Health
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required, will consider those actively pursuing certification.
- One year of experience currently performing activities that are client centered, while incorporating the principles of infection prevention
- Minimum five years’ experience related to the healthcare industry with familiar patient care services
- Minimum two years’ experience in Infection Prevention and Control preferred
- Experience performing regular self-evaluations to identify strengths and needs for professional development
- Knowledge of epidemiologic principles, statistics, microbiology, and infectious diseases with the ability to integrate this knowledge into clinical practice
- Knowledge and ability to utilize education principles in adult teaching
- Advanced computer skills and ability to integrate into clinical practice
- Knowledge and ability to utilize, the principles of quality improvement
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively participate in Infection Prevention and Control initiatives
