**Salary**: $3,076.28 to $4,053.05 bi-weekly ($80,290.91 - $ 105,784.61 /year)

The Ministry of Municipal Affairs supports municipalities in providing well-managed, fiscally responsible, and accountable local government to Albertans. This includes administering municipal grant programs; delivering advisory and capacity-building supports; providing municipal services and managing public lands in the province’s three Special Areas; and overseeing the safety codes system in the province. The ministry also fosters stronger, safer communities across the province, and enables local governments to facilitate Alberta’s economic prosperity.

**Role Responsibilities**:
**1. Coordinate the identification and resolution of issues that are of a complex legislative and regulatory nature.**
- Identify and resolve complex legislative and regulatory issues that may have wide-reaching impacts on stakeholders.
- Engage independently with program areas, policy teams, legal services, and management to address legislative concerns arising during the drafting or amendment of legislation.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of technical and legal issues related to legislative interpretation and implementation.

**2. Coordinate the preparation of legislation and regulations to align with policy direction.**
- Coordinate the preparation of legislation and regulations to reflect government policy direction.
- Consult with internal colleagues to resolve challenges aligning drafted legislation with policy objectives.
- Develop clear, comprehensive drafting instructions for Legislative Counsel that synthesize policy direction within the existing legislative framework.

**3. Provide advice and support to the Manager in the oversight of the Ministry's legislative agenda and regulatory schedule, and for cross-Ministry work as it arises.**
- Support the Manager in overseeing the Ministry’s legislative agenda and regulatory schedule.
- Provide legislative expertise and leadership on statutory interpretation, legislative best practices, and drafting principles across the branch, division, and Ministry.
- Track both priority and long-term projects, ensuring effective coordination and informed decision-making by senior leadership.

**4. Coordinate the involvement of the legislation team on policy development.**
- Actively participate in early-stage policy development by collaborating with program areas and policy advisors.
- Ensure legislative considerations are incorporated into policy solutions that address stakeholder concerns.
- Review and provide input on policy initiatives with potential legislative implications.
- Research and prepare detailed responses to Action Requests, management or ministerial questions, and stakeholder inquiries.
- Analyze and interpret policy and legislative issues to support the development of briefing materials, policy papers, and cabinet documents.

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum recruitment standards outline the minimum education and experience required for appointment to a job classification.

University graduation in a related field such as Law, Public Policy, Social Science, Political Science, plus 6 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, facilitate and coordinate working groups and legislative advisors on the team.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate the team's legislative work, ensuring effective time management and balancing of multiple priorities.
- Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and communication skills, including the ability to resolve complex problems, formulate strategies and identify impacts.
- Detail oriented with excellent writing skills.
