**Job description**
The estimator develops plan to meet customer requirements and estimates the cost of materials. Develop and compile a list of materials from the blueprints. Take part in sales calls and regularly estimate the cost and quantity of materials necessary for specific projects. The estimator must perform all assigned tasks with sufficient speed and accuracy to support store efficiency and a high level of customer service.
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop takeoffs to ensure it is aligned with tracking requirements for job cost and schedule - per system, per drawing, per floor and by phase, requesting quoted prices, identifying subcontractors, estimating project expenses with the appropriate management.
- Compile risk registers for management review.
- Perform take-offs, which entails obtaining pricing from supply chain, participating in the development of project schedule and execution plans, and preparing submittal documents.
- Prepare final estimate breakdowns and analyze each section for scope, price, and completeness.
- Participate in estimate reviews prior to submittal to the client.
- Complete post-bid analyses and document lessons learned. Integrate lessons learned and tracking from Projects into historical data for future reference.
- Cooperate and collaborate with various other business functions such as Procurement, Quality Control, Planning/Scheduling, and Project Coordination.
- Establish strong relationships with suppliers and sub-trades to ensure sound and competitive pricing is received. Create estimates, take offs for different projects.
- Contact Vendors or Supplier Order Desks to get pricing, availability and product options on non-stock special order products.
- Add quotes in point-of-sale program
- Create Orders & Purchase Orders, for special order products, with Purchaser, Vendors or Supplier Order Desks.
- Process Proper Paperwork and file in accordance of company procedures and practices.
- Follow up with Sales Staff/customer and/or shipper to arrange shipping of orders once received, with sufficient speed and accuracy to support store efficiency and a high level of customer service.
- Work in conjunction with and provide support for the contractors’ desk
- Suggest changes in rules, policies and / or procedures when you believe such changes would improve efficiency, profits, sales, overall operations, and / or morale.
- Work on special projects when they are assigned by your supervisor after determining a mutually agreeable degree of priority in the context of your other responsibilities.
- Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by management
- Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management to have the situation corrected
- Supply customers and management with accurate estimates.
- Participate in meetings, training sessions, conferences, etc., when appropriate **Qualifications**:
- A Diploma or trade certification would be considered an asset but not required.
- Construction experience, or understanding of construction methods and procedures considered an asset
- Training in drafting, designing and blueprint reading assets.
- Ability to work co-operatively in a team atmosphere.
- Excellent communication skills
- Attention to visual detail
- Ability to meet deadlines and collaborate with a team
- Must be able to read, comprehend, and interpret information relative to the position presented in written and printed form, as well as pertinent data stated in numerical and / or statistical form to prepare designs and estimates promptly and accurately.
- Must be able to operate equipment necessary to the position, e.g. a computer, fax machine, telephone, etc.
