**Job Purpose**:
Reporting to the to the Area Manager, the Family Support Worker will actively support families as they address issues affecting their family life and/or the optimal development of their children. Consults with program staff and in partnership develops an action plan. Promotes mutual problem-solving and networking among parents to increase the parenting capacity of families. Actively promotes and participates in the development of appropriate community resources to support families. Ensures that the family support services are delivered in compliance with the Child Care Early Years Act (CCEYA) and within the framework of the Family Day’s family-centred policy.

**Job Duties**:

- Design, deliver and evaluate a range of support services that strengthens and builds on the skills of the families
- Provide short-term individual and family support
- Provide parent education and support services to enhance individual strengths and build parenting capacity of all families
- Provide services that empower vulnerable families to advocate on behalf of their children
- Provide information and referral to families to enable them to make effective use of community resources
- Provide leadership and actively facilitates linkages to appropriate resources for children and/or families
- Assist families in completing the necessary documents to access services.
- Respond to the diversity of individuals, families and the changing demographics of the community
- Advocate for families within Family Day Programs Promotes family support programs within Family Day settings
- Promotes awareness of issues affecting family life within the communities.
- Maintain and develop a close liaison with a wide range of agencies that provide services to child and families
- Maintains accurate records and statistics concerning the program
- Maintains a current inventory of community resources within the communities
- Monthly participation in individual supervision
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training
- Perform other duties and assigned

**Education and Experience** **Required**
- E.C.E. degree/diploma or Family Support Worker Diploma/Certificate
- If ECE Diploma/Degree, incumbent must be registered with the College of Early Childhood Educators
- Previous job or life experience of one year but less than two years
- Combination of training and experience working with families and children or related experience
- Knowledge of child development, community resources
- Ability to network with community agencies
- Excellent organizational, time management, computer, communication, written and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Car required together with current license and vehicle liability insurance
- Medical required - including TB 6 months current to hiring date
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check 6 months current to hiring date
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR, level C
