The custodian at Thrive Elementary School plays a critical role in ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. As a key member of the operations team, the custodian is responsible for daily cleaning, routine maintenance, safety checks, and seasonal tasks that contribute to the overall functionality and presentation of the school.

This position requires attention to detail, physical stamina, familiarity with cleaning procedures and safety protocols, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Given that Thrive is a new and growing school, the custodian should be flexible and prepared to assist with occasional facility-related tasks such as installing items or adjusting school fixtures.

**Key Responsibilities**

**Daily Cleaning & Sanitation**
- Sweep, mop, scrub, and vacuum all types of flooring in classrooms, hallways, and common areas.
- Gather and empty trash and recycling throughout the building.
- Clean and sanitize restroom facilities, including restocking supplies.
- Dust and wipe down furniture, walls, windows, mirrors, and other surfaces.
- Clean and polish fixtures and furniture as needed.

**Routine Maintenance & Upkeep**
- Perform routine maintenance and inspection tasks on building systems and school property.
- Notify administration of any repairs needed or issues affecting school operations.
- Monitor and manage inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment.
- Follow established safety procedures for handling cleaning agents and operating machinery.

**Seasonal & Specialized Duties**
- Shovel snow and keep sidewalks clear of ice and safe during winter months.
- Support basic outdoor maintenance during spring/summer.
- Conduct safety inspections, including playground equipment checks and minor outdoor cleaning.
- Assist with hanging bulletin boards, installing classroom fixtures, or adjusting furniture/equipment as required.

**Custiodian Qualifications/Skills**:

- Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures
- Ability to stand, walk, and bend for many hours
- Ability to perform repetitive motion for long periods of time
- Experience with using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions
- Background in handling, mixing, and using cleaning chemicals
- Knowledge of occupational hazards safety rules
- Communication skills
- Ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders and work at particular heights
- A Vulnerable Sector Police Information Check, completed within the last 6 months or will have to be completed prior to being offered the position.

**Afternoon-Evening Custodial Rsponsibilty**:

- Coordinating and organization of evening gym rentals
- Liaison between the school and the gym rental client

**Education and Experience Requirements**:

- High school diploma or equivalent
