**Position Purpose**: The Supervisor, Transit & Fleet, is responsible for all repairs and preventive maintenance required to ensure continued operation of zoo vehicles and mobile equipment to extend their useful life in a cost-effective way. Responsible for replacement of all vehicles and equipment. This position will assist and provide support in implementing the Strategic Plan.
**Core Role Responsibilities**:
- Conducts preventative maintenance service, repairs and fabrication including motor vehicle inspection and safety checks on road and off-road. Examines vehicles, golf carts, landscape equipment from tractors to line trimmers to bicycles etc.
- Ensures the timely and efficient preparation of all required reports, statements and proper records of vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- Responsible for overseeing the maintenance of all Zoo vehicles, equipment and on-site rides, assignment of work and deployment of unit staff for breakdowns, repairs and preventive maintenance programs.
- Maintains spare parts inventory and re-orders as required including business case preparation and monitoring of implementation.
- Responsible for maintaining 5-year vehicle replacement plan and specification and RFP preparation for purchasing of vehicles.
- Prepares and administers annual budget for the Unit.
- Ensures all legislation and applicable regulations are complied with.
- Prepares and establishes schedule for replacement of vehicles and equipment including business case preparation and monitoring of implementation.
- Makes recommendations regarding replacement, upgrading or purchasing of equipment or machinery required to maintain the physical plant.
- Monitors adherence to established maintenance standards and repair measures; ensures repairs are taken toward all Zoo licensed and unlicensed vehicles and equipment including grass cutting and snow removal equipment, and golf cart fleet.
- Oversees and ensures good maintenance and cleanliness of tools, equipment, the garage, transit buildings and adjacent outdoor areas.
**Technical Knowledge and Skills**:
- Must have post-secondary education and/or training in a related skilled trade.
- Must have 3-5 years progressive related experience, including 1 year demonstrated experience providing leadership.
- Must possess 310T-Truck and Coach Technician license valid in the Province of Ontario.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario class DZ driver’s license.
- Experience in a unionized environment preferred.
- Must possess a knowledge of advanced electronics and electricity.
- Must be able to read complex drawings and schematics.
- Proven ability to maintain and update a large parts inventory.
- Must possess a demonstrated ability to effectively organize work schedules for staff and maintenance schedules for vehicles and equipment.
- Effective knowledge of the C.V.O.R. and the M.T.O. regulations and laws.
- Must have a demonstrated ability to lead and supervise. Experience in a unionized environment preferred
- Must be knowledgeable in the use of computerized programs and systems, including Microsoft Office 365.
- Must be knowledgeable in the use, implementation, and continuous operation of CMMS/preventative maintenance programs.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, along with strong communications skills.
- Must have a working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and WHMIS legislation.
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
- Must be able to deal with staff and public in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Must have basic knowledge of budget preparation and administration.
- Capable of meeting the physical demands of the position.
