**PURPOSE**: Reporting to the Office Manager for Administration, the Gymnasium Manager will be responsible for managing the facility, operations, gymnasium staff and a variety of gym & recreation programming at Siem Lelum Gymnasium. The role requires a passion for promoting wellness and community engagement through recreational activities. This is a full-time, permanent position that will be required to work during the week as well some nights and weekends for program service delivery. The Gymnasium Manager will work primarily on-site with mínimal local travel required.
**COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS**: Cowichan Tribes offers an excellent benefit and pension plan available after successful completion of the probationary period. The position includes paid training, paid vacation and paid sick leave. Depending on experience, the position starts at **$41.15 - $44.08 per hour ($74,885.15 - $80,217.85 annually).**
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Supervision of Recreation & Gym Staff**
- Manage, schedule and supervise the recreation and gymnasium staff including but not limited to the Recreation Coordinator, Recreation Workers, Gym Attendants, Custodians and volunteers
- Participate in program recruitment, hiring, lead staff development, performance management and dispute resolution
- Ensure reporting staff and gym users are trained and/or certified as required and in accordance with gym standards and procedures
- Authorize all employee payroll related documents
- Other related duties as required
**Facility Management**
- Develop and implement facility operational guidelines and procedures including but not limited to emergency preparedness and planning, health & safety, maintenance, and security
- Manage budget and monitor expenditures including but not limited to the procurement of supplies and equipment
- Complete and submit purchase orders, cash deposits, process invoices and receipts
- Monitor change rooms, washrooms, dining hall and building perimeter
- Ensure facility maintenance and health & safety requirements are being fulfilled and conduct and/or coordinate maintenance inspections and complete maintenance service request as required
- Ensure the safe usage and inventory of all gym and recreation related equipment including the kitchen and dining hall
- Develop and implement Inventory management of consumables, equipment and supplies, including inspection and quality control
- Collaborate with the communications team to promote programs and services. Assist in the development of marketing materials, social media content, and outreach efforts to attract new patrons
- Other related duties as required
**Manage Gym & Recreation Programs**
- Seek funding opportunities, draft funding proposals and administer funding agreements
- Promote and enhance the use of the gymnasium and its programs to internal and external partners
- Manage gym rentals, including but not limited to providing rental rates, prepare rental contracts, complete rental bookings, collect rental fees, and complete daily gym schedules
- Provide assistance to potential user groups with operational capabilities of gym facilities
- Plan, develop, and implement programs and events for individuals and groups of all ages. Programs monitor participation and feedback to adjust as needed
- Other related duties as required
**Administration**
- Create and implement process and systems as required to improve tracking, auditing and service delivery including but not limited to:
- Bookings and payments
- Revenues
- Inventory
- Maintenance
- Communication flows
- Develop and manage the budget for the facility
- Ensure that expenses are controlled and revenue generating activities are optimized.
- Prepare financial reports as required
- Other related duties as required
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (please attach all required documents)**
- Post-secondary education in Recreation Management, Facility Management, Sport Management, Business Management or a related field, or equivalent years of experience managing programs or facilities
- Minimum 3 years’ direct related and progressive experience, which include budget development and management roles required
- Demonstrated experience of public relations and marketing best practices
- Demonstrated experience creating and implementing processes and systems
- First Aid, CPR-C and AED certified required
- WHMIS certified required
- Food Safe certified required
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and reliable vehicle required
- Criminal Record Check is required
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**:
- Knowledge of recreation facilities management techniques, procedures, practices and industry standards
