Supervisor, Sport

Under the direction of the Manager, Recreation Services, the Supervisor, Sport is responsible for the delivery and management of the Sport Business Unit. This includes sport programs, leagues and event delivery for all ages, the Keith Davis Tennis Centre, the Town of Newmarket Pickleball facility, Sport Recognition Program within the Recreation & Culture Department. This position will also be the lead in all Town Sport Tourism efforts.
Job Requirements
**Credentials**
- Post-secondary Diploma in a related field such as recreation/kinesiology/child development/gerontology, municipal government administration, and progressive supervisory experience in recreation program development.
- Must possess WHIMIS certification; Standard First Aid and CPR “C”. Knowledge of requirements for High Five.
- Class “G” Driver’s licence in good standing and reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
- Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.
**Knowledge/Skills Required**
- Knowledge gained through progressive experience in municipal recreation environment preferably with full responsibility at the Supervisory level.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the sport industry.
- Demonstrated knowledge of staff supervision and development, team building, conflict resolution as well as customer service.
- Progressive experience in recreation programming and facility utilization in a municipal environment.
- Strong customer service orientation, interpersonal, conflict resolution, consultative, problem-solving, analytical and presentation skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of budget preparation and management.
- Proficient in the use of MS Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) and recreation software systems.
- Knowledge of relevant legislative requirements pertaining to programs, youth, and seniors such as, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ministry of Labor, Ministry of Health and Sports, the Town standards, and bylaws.
- Knowledge of legislation, bylaws, legal proceedings and the ability to interpret legislation such as Ontario Liquor Control Board, Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, Public Health Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA), Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, Employment Standards legislation and administrative bylaws.
- Knowledge of market conditions, competitive positioning and demographics for assigned line of business to ensure that marketing and programming are responsive to customer and resident needs.
