Labourer ll - Transportation

Reporting to the Transportation Supervisor, this position works independently or with a team; this position is responsible for waste and garbage collecting, signage and wayfinding and an assortment of support duties related to the maintenance of the County’s roads (paved or gravel) and assets (bridges, drainage ditches and signs) plus other tasks as needed.

**Job Duties**:
Surface and crack sealing on roadways.

Potholes repair on roadways.

Oil road maintenance.

Bridge maintenance including cleaning and repair not limited to removal and replacement of deck planks.

Culvert replacement and disposal.

Roadside ditch and drainage work.

Beaver dam removal.

Brush clearing.

Landscaping.

Traffic control - flagging.

Installation and maintenance of road signs.

Waste and garbage collection.

Loading and unloading materials and equipment.

Secure loads and tow trailers.

Perform routine equipment maintenance.

Interact with citizens, contractors and County employees in an appropriate manner as guided by Sturgeon County Values.

Adhere to the applicable responsibilities and accountabilities as outlined in the Sturgeon County Health and Safety Management System.

**Job Qualifications and Skills**:
Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and an acceptable 5-year commercial drivers abstract.

Defensive Driving Certification.

Emergency or Standard First Aid and CPR.

Ground Disturbance Level l

Safety training in the following areas would be considered an asset however internal training may be provided: National Safety Codes, Pre-trip Inspection, Flag Person Training Course, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Forklift Operator Certification, Coupling/Uncoupling, Cargo Securement - Rigging and Slinging, Crane and Hoisting Equipment Operator - Boom Truck, Chainsaw Safety, Fire Extinguisher, Overhead Powerline, Ground Disturbance Safety Training, and Customer Service Training.

Must work effectively and efficiently with others and alone, be punctual, communicate openly, take direction well and show initiative. Work is performed on work sites within the county.

Work may be performed in extreme temperatures or high levels of noise. Physical job requirements: May require lifting and carrying of up to 23kg, shoveling, bending, twisting, kneeling, squatting, crawling, exposure to outdoor conditions, dust, and fumes, and working near equipment. Complete other duties as required by supervisor. Availability to work overtime when required.
