Eagle Copters Maintenance Ltd. (ECML) is a Calgary-based company offering complete helicopter fleet management support to operators since 1975. We offer purchasing, selling, leasing, maintenance, and overhaul of helicopters in the global marketplace.
ECML is looking for a Health & Safety Coordinator, Safety Manager with an Aviation background to join our rapidly growing operations. This position is onsite and located at our Headquarters at 823 McTavish Road NE, Calgary, Alberta, T2E 7G9.
**Position Overview**:
The position is considered a dual role where the incumbent will be responsible for the facilitation and procedural requirements for compliance to federal and provincial Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) legislation. They will also be responsible for the role of Safety Manager for the implementation, compliance, and the continuous improvement of the Eagle Copters Safety Management System (SMS) as per Transport Canada’s Canadian Air Regulations (CAR’s). The incumbent will report to the Vice President of Operations.
**Duties & Responsibilities**:
- Plan, implement, and manage the organization’s safety management system (SMS) including hazard identification, safety risk assessment and mitigation in compliance with TC regulations.
- Assess changes to the SMS program and provide input from a regulatory standpoint and assist in the development of safety objectives and goals.
- Participate in accident and incident investigations as part of the SMS core team to determine root cause(s) of any hazard, incident or accident identified through the SMS program.
- Conduct safety audits, surveys, and inspections within operations and utilize collected data from the SMS database to monitor safety trends for use in the risk management process.
- Create standard operating procedures (SOP’S), safe work practices (SWP’s), and other safety related reports, procedures and documents as required.
- Provide workers with responses to any concerns raised through a job safety observation (JSO) card regarding OH&S or SMS requirements.
- Review and revise existing OH&S and SMS manuals, policies, and procedures as required.
- Coordinate and conduct internal employee training seminars, perform new employee safety orientations and external customers safety orientations.
- Coordinate and lead the Health & Safety Committee for compliance to mandatory OH&S safety meetings.
- Work with the Operations Managers to communicate importance of OH&S and SMS programs for all employees to ensure ongoing understanding and compliance.
- Inform workers of potential dangers in the workplace and advise them of precautionary measures.
- Conduct recurring safety inspections (with employee participation) in multiple operational areas and report outcomes of these inspections to employees, managers, and senior managers.
- Identify hazards for mitigation, assessment of safety risks, and make recommendations to implement controls for managing risk.
- Identify and document unsafe acts or conditions that may require an immediate correction action and communicate them to department managers.
- Ensure that all incidents, accidents, property, or vehicle damage are promptly reported and thoroughly investigated.
- Maintain the Emergency Response Plan.
**Required Skills & Knowledge**:
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Safety Coordinator, Safety Manager or similar experience role preferably from an aviation background.
- Licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) or commercial fixed wing or helicopter pilot desirable.
- Certificate/Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety.
- Approval as Safety Manager / SMS Manager from TC, EASA desirable.
- Valid First aid and CPR certificate.
- Experience in developing safety programs, policies, and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to keep detailed and accurate safety records.
- Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
- Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment to compile information, identify issues, take appropriate action, or involve others as necessary.
