**_Casual Educational Assistants (EAs)_**

**Are you interested in working with children who require the support of an Educational Assistant?**

**Casual Educational Assistants (EAs) are required on an “as needed” basis to work at various schools and at various grade levels. Casual EAs are required to demonstrate**:

- understanding of the role and responsibility of an EA
- knowledge of the stages of child/youth development
- an awareness of, respect, sensitivity, and awareness of similarities/differences for children with special needs
- knowledge of health, hygiene and safety including personal/physical care and the safe transfer of students
- understanding of behaviour management
- awareness of assistive technology
- ability to work collaboratively with members of a team
- ability to follow instructions of teachers and school administrators

**The qualifications of a casual EA include**:

- post-secondary training in human services or a related field is preferred
- ability to physically perform the requirements of the position
- a desire to work with children and youth
- respect for confidentiality and privacy protocols
- sensitivity and respect for diversity

**If you are interested in working as a casual educational assistant, you must successfully complete a Child Abuse Registry Search and a Criminal Record Check, including the vulnerable sector.**
