**Shop Superintendent - Pipe Fabrication**

**Reports to**:
Fabrication Manager

**Job Purpose**

The Shop Superintendent plays a vital role in ensuring that the day-to-day HSE & Production requirements of the business runs safely & efficiently. They are responsible for ensuring that effective methods are put into place so that the company runs to its maximum productivity.

**Roles and Responsibilities**
- Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following and enforcing company HSE Procedures and OH&S Standards
- Conduct site inspections
- Coordination and responsibility for shop and task hazard inspections
- Enforce company policies and procedures
- Ensure no worker (employee or contractor) starts work without verifying orientation and training requirements have been met
- Ensure corrective actions, as assigned, are completed within a timely manner
- Take all precautions necessary to protect the health and safety of every worker under the supervisor’s supervision
- Ensure that a worker under their supervision works in the manner and in accordance with the procedures and measures required by the OHS Act, Regulations and Code
- Ensure that every worker under their supervision uses all hazard controls
- Advise every worker under their supervision of all known or reasonably foreseeable hazards to health and safety in the area where the worker is performing work
- Report to the employer a concern about an unsafe or harmful work site act that occurs or has occurred or an unsafe or harmful work site condition that exists or has existed
- Set a standard of performance and behavior
- Ensure training needs are identified and met
- Correct unsafe practices or conditions
- Ensure workers are trained and competent to perform their job safely
- Ensure workers are actively participating in their responsibilities within the health and safety management system, such as forms completion, training, reporting, etc.
- Enforce health and safety standards and positively reinforce good behavior;
- Conduct or participate in inspections, tours, observations, etc. as outlined for your position
- Ensure incidents are reported, participate in the investigations and that corrective actions are taken to prevent reoccurrence
- Consult/assist with Project Department constructability schedule and plan
- Review job specs, understand project contract and Scope Of Work
- Assess schedule (Project Schedule and FabCurve) and daily FDI’s (factored diameter inches)
- Analyze process flow, employee suitability for job / work, shop space, and equipment layout
- Update and communicate new plans based on Project Team / client schedule changes
- Host daily meetings with foreman to address schedules and daily FDI requirements
- Communicate job expectations to Piping & Welding Foreman
- Communicate job expectations with Hydro Foreman
- Communicate with Material Group to ensure backlog is available
- Creating or adding support on “Lessons Learned” documentation
- Work with Production Manager to implement new policies and procedures
- Ensuring that project schedules are met, and notices of issues and risks are identified
- Review and adjust (if required) labour budget expectations (Fabcurve)
- Review and approve tool crib consumable orders
- Review and approve welding consumable orders
- Review and understand project budgets
- Identification of opportunities to reduce costs and manage risks and communicate to Production Manager
- Ensure Change Order Request’s and Re-Work hours are tracked and reported correctly in Dayforce
- Review Fab Curve Schedule
- Review Backlog Report
- Review Work Bench Report, and support Production Manager with narrative
- Monitor project spool trackers
- Understand production budgets and finds ways to optimize profits
- If problems or concerns are identified communicate to Production Manager
- Ensure weekly fab curve (Factored Diameter Inches) is reviewed and attainable
- Ensure shop backlog report is accurate
- Ensure materials shorts list is updated weekly
- Ensure manpower numbers are comparable to the backlog report
- Define 3 week look ahead with Project Team
- Analyzing daily data (Ex. Welder inch sheets, Fitter inch sheets) - determine what is happening and make recommendations to improve
- Consult with Project Team on execution plan and deliverables
- Ensure proper maintenance and tracking of existing assets / replacement cycles
- Determine special equipment needs (ex. SAW, FCAW welding machines)
- Remove any constraints to ensure smooth construction
- Discuss daily planned activities between Production and QC
- Oversee 3rd party scheduling (ex. Tomco, IRIS)
- Inspire and motivate staff to perform at their best
- maintain positive and realistic approaches for motivation
- Set the standards for performance and hold all employees accountable
- Utilizing production workbench to ensure adequate staffing

**Qualifications**
- Journeyperson certificate or postsecondary diploma or degree in a related discipline
- 10 + years
