**Purpose**:
The AVP, Budgets & Asset Management role reports to the Vice President, Finance and Administration. The Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) is committed to providing professional, value-added services that enable and support York University's mission and vision. DFA recognizes that people are the greatest enablers in delivering impactful services, and to maximize impact on the University, effective communications are the cornerstone to DFA's success.As a key member of the University's senior leadership team, supporting the Vice President, Finance and Administration and the Provost and Vice-President Academic, the Assistant Vice President (AVP) Budgets & Asset Management is responsible for the overall planning of the University's $1.3 billion operating, ancillary and capital budgets. This culminates in the preparation of multi-year budget plans, which are presented to the Finance and Audit Committee and the Board of Governors. The leadership and management of the Budgets & Asset Management department requires primarily a mindset and behavior that exemplifies a service excellence culture. Additionally, the role requires a strong focus on continuous quality improvement, strategic planning, and financial management. The AVP, Budgets & Asset Management role is responsible for maintaining the University's Asset Management system to support the University's strategic priorities. The role is accountable to provide proactive, timely and accurate data, models, and reports on a wide range of budget, financial and resource allocation issues. The AVP Budgets & Asset Management leads a team to provide timely and appropriate analytical support to the Vice President, Finance and Administration, the Provost's Office, as well as the various Faculties and Departments of the University. The role develops the institution's overall budget strategy in sustaining the University's financial health. The AVP Budget & Asset Management role supports the vision, mission, values and strategic direction of the Division of Finance and Administration and York University, and contributes to a positive, supportive, and client-focused team environment of high performance, respect, trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement, and embraces sustainability, decolonization, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

**Education**:
Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline, such as business.
CPA accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA) is desired.

**Experience**:
10 years related experience.
7 years of management experience.
Senior financial management experience in a large complex organization, preferably an academic institution.
People management experience preferably in a unionized environment.
Significant experience with budget and strategic planning.

**Skills**:
Knowledge:
Broad understanding of the goals and objectives of a university and a sound knowledge of academic and administrative decision-making processes.
Expertise in accounting, budget management, financial controls, financial planning principles and general accounting procedures.
Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Knowledge of best practices in the management of data and systems.
Knowledge of Collective Agreements and the post-secondary environment including an understanding and awareness of post-secondary education sector priorities and pressures, the economic landscape in which the University operates, and an understanding of political trends.

**Skills**:Demonstrated ability to manage the budget and financial health of a large public sector organization.
Proven ability to achieve organizational goals through working with individuals at a variety of organizational levels.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to think and analyze at a detailed level, and then convey information in useful, summarized presentation format.
Effective leadership and interpersonal skills.
Effective l communication skills to communicate to internal and external partners when delivering presentations and information sessions to faculty, management and staff and preparing policy guidelines, business plans, proposals, Board documents, briefing memos, and general communications.
Effective computer skills, particularly in data extraction and analysis.
Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and staff within the University, and external parties including members of the University Board of Governors, Deans, Vice Presidents, and Executive Officers.
Ability to manage competing interests of community, to manage and communicate policy issues, to enforce compliance with policy and good accounting practices.
Planning and organizational skills to implement projects over extended time periods, with tight deadli
