In accordance with the Trust/Research Academic Staff Agreement, this position has a comprehensive benefits package and an annual salary range of $87,013 to $119,644. This position has an initial appointment of 3 years.

**Working for the Department of Psychiatry**
Psychiatry is a department in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta. Our department couples basic science with clinical research to promote world-class investigations on issues relevant to mental health. The Department also has a diverse group of outstanding scientists who are internationally recognized. These scientists are carrying out some of the leading-edge research in neuropsychiatry, mood and anxiety disorders, and schizophrenia.
**Position Summary**
The Director of Mental Health Literacy (MHL) leads the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of educational interventions that promote mental health literacy across educational, community, and public sector systems. Reporting to the TIME4MH Executive Leadership within the Department of Psychiatry, the MHL Director plays a key role in building sustainable and evidence
- informed programs that target K-12 children, adolescents, and youth, as well as related stakeholders such as educators, post-secondary institutions, parents, caregivers, sport and recreation organizations, and public servants. This position operates within an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment and contributes directly to improving population-level mental health outcomes by increasing knowledge, reducing stigma, and encouraging early help-seeking.
**Duties**
- Lead the creation and continual refinement of mental health literacy programs and resources, tailored to diverse audiences.
- Support interdisciplinary integration with other TIME4MH streams, including healthcare and autism-focused initiatives.
- Co-lead research and evaluation initiatives in collaboration with TIME4MH’s research team and other internal and external teams.
**Qualifications**
Education and Experience
- A master’s degree or higher in education, psychology, social work, public health, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in mental health promotion and prevention, education systems, or health literacy program delivery.
- Demonstrated experience in program development, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement.
Knowledge and Expertise
- Deep knowledge of mental health literacy frameworks, stigma reduction, and educational theory.
- Familiarity with Canadian mental health systems, especially in children and youth and school settings.
- Understanding and experience of implementation science and effective health communication.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong facilitation and public speaking skills, adaptable to varied audiences.
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Strong writing, editing, and content development capabilities.
- Ability to lead multi-sectoral collaborations and coordinate project teams.
- Skilled in translating research into accessible resources.
This position requires that the incumbent be eligible to participate in government-funded research projects, including active ability to receive federal research funds on behalf of the university. Individuals having an active affiliation with a Named Research Organization are ineligible to participate in government-funded research projects in Sensitive Technology Research Areas in Canada.
