We are currently looking for an Estimator to join our team in Richmond, BC.
**PURPOSE OF POSITION**
Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Estimating, the Estimator is responsible to prepare material and labor estimates for all manufactured products for both routine capital and major project works based on historical data, commercial knowledge and product specifications.
**TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES**
**SAFETY**:
- Complies with all Nortrak safety policies and regulations.
**QUALITY**:
- Ensures all costing is current, accurate and complete. Continuously verifies estimated costs against actuals.
- Review tender documents and drawings and work with sales to clarify scope of projects and products to be delivered
- Research and validate technical assumptions
- Identify opportunities for process standardization / optimization
- Participate in project review process and identify process improvement initiatives
- Assist industrial engineering group to create, review and optimize routers
**ON-TIME DELIVERY**:
- Follow vaRS Nortrak’s estimating methodology to deliver accurate estimates within specified deadlines
- Assemble and deliver accurate and well organized estimates outlining key underlying assumptions in a timely manner
- Ensures estimates are completed in a timely fashion to meet bid and tender submission deadlines
- Manage deadlines and prioritize bids based on complexity, priority and risks
**COST**:
- Maintains knowledge of state-of-practice. Identifies and recommends cost effective material, design and process options.
- Liaise with sub-trades for quotations and analyze quotes compared to historical data
- Use financial and non-financial data to make informed assumptions for costing
**PEOPLE**:
- Maintain and collaborate a good working relationship with other functions and divisions; in particular Sales
- Perform peer-review on other estimators’ work and provide feedback
- Eager to improve and support other estimators
**ENVIRONMENTAL**:
- Adhere to Nortrak's Environmental Procedures, Practices and Policies.
**QUALITIFCATION**:
**EDUCATION**:
- Post-Secondary education with diploma or degree in an appropriate Engineering or other extensive technical discipline
**FIELD OF EXPERIENCE**:
- Commercial estimating experience in the general manufacturing sector is an asset.
- Experience in other areas of the manufacture of Special Trackwork or other heavy steel fabrication would be an asset.
- Advanced programming skills in MS Excel would be an asset.
- Able to plan, organize, and exhibit excellent follow-up skills.
- Strong analytical and interpersonal skills combined with sound professional judgement
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
**PHYSICAL DEMANDS WHEN AT MANUFACTURING FACILITIES**:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or climbing.
- Must be able to lift or handle up to 25 pounds at times.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Occasional travel may be required which includes walking, standing, sitting and driving from short to long periods of time.
