**GENERAL SUMMARY**
Under the general direction of the Operations Coordinator and direct supervision of an RCMP member, the guard
ensures the care and wellbeing of prisoners within the RCMP Sea to Sky Detachment, Squamish.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
- Contributes to the success of our team, creation of our thriving community, by fostering the District of Squamish
corporate values: Respect, Integrity, Connection and Progress.
- Monitors prisoners ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Inspects locks, retraining devices, storage facilities, alarms, and other safety devices in detention center.
- Maintains an awareness of the number of prisoners in custody.
- When requested, assists with the search of prisoners.
- Maintains a variety of records such as prisoner record logs and reports, supplies needs of prisoners, prisoner’s
belongings, and shift duties.
- Performs a variety of cleaning duties in the cell area.
- Prepares food and laundry orders.
- Maintains a current understanding of RCMP policy and procedures.
- Maintains current understanding of the Collective Agreement.
- Monitors supplies to ensure supplies are available for use.
- Escorts Contractors within the detachment and secure area of the building.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES**
- Knowledge of RCMP detachment standard operating procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and the ability to deal with people in a professional manner,
speaking distinctly with a friendly, calm, and helpful manner.
- Possesses high levels of organization and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in an isolated environment with exposure to intoxicated and abusive prisoners.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Possesses ability to stay vigilant while guarding.
**REQUIRED TRAINING, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:
- Enhanced Level RCMP Security Clearance
- Valid Basic First Aid Certificate or equivalent
- Six months recent experience working with the general public
**OR**
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience

**Hours of Work**:Casual/On-Call coverage. Shifts may range Monday-Sunday anytime within a 24 hour period.
**Salary**:$25.75 per hour***
This is a Union position within the Collective Agreement of CUPE Local 2269 and the District of Squamish.
