**PURPOSE OF POSITION**:
The Plant Environment Health Safety (EHS) Specialist position is responsible for implementing and administering standardized EHS processes to ensure safety and health compliance to Federal, Provincial and Local regulations as well as Corporate Policies and Procedures. The Health & Safety Specialist is expected to contribute to the achievement of Employee Quality of life and corporate savings by controlling eliminating occupational injuries/illnesses, property damage and environmental impacts. This position will specifically focus on improving and safeguarding the health and safety of all employees, ensuring compliance, supporting Safety and Wellness activities, Safety Management System (OHSAS 18001) and Environment Management System (ISO 14001). Focuses on IATF standard for quality improvement through a formal commitment to excellence, cost efficiency and reliability.

**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & ACTIVITIES**:

- Ensure day to day compliance with safety agencies including MOL, ESA, TSSA, etc.
- Coordinate all regulatory issues and communication with the Corporate EHS Manager
- C0-chair JHSC committee
- Work with EHS Lead to adopt and implement appropriate Safety protocols and procedures (SMI’s, ETI’s etc)
- Respond to and investigate plant injuries and concerns. Identify deficiencies, assign responsibility and track implementation of countermeasures
- Conduct regular audits of EHS processes (weekly safety audits, monthly S-58 audits, occasional S-54 bulletins, etc) and necessary follow up to ensure compliance and advise plant leadership and corporate EHS staff of findings.
- Maintain accurate and complete records to demonstrate compliance with safety requirements
- Issue monthly safety talks
- Lead industrial hygiene assessments and sampling
- Ensure OHM injury reporting system is maintained
- Lead the implementation of OHSAS 18001-Safety
- Maintain MSDS database
- Attend external Safety Group meetings and ensure all annual requirements are met
- Participate in new and modified equipment programs from the concept stage through delivery to ensure that EHS design specifications and regulations are included (PHSR, SMI-105 etc.).
- Ensure compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety laws and regulations and the requirements of ISO 14000, ISO 500001 Energy Management and AITF 16949
- Ensure ergonomic processes implemented/ integrated in an appropriate manner. - Oversee/implement EHS training programs and training assessments to ensure required training is identified and conducted.
- Lead the JSRA and JSRP process
- Identify and drive projects for OHS improvements
- Conduct daily follow up of all injuries and SEWO’s
- Conduct daily Green room reviews
- Maintain safety statistics, green room spreadsheet, etc.
- Analyze injury/illness experience, identify/track injury correlation, determine root causes, implement corrective action and communicate this information to plant leadership and corporate EHS.
- Manage routine safety reports including data acquisition, documentation, record keeping, monitoring, review, and approval.
- Coordinate communication of EHS regulatory inspection activity with plant leadership.
- Lead EHS projects to improve EHS key performance metrics.
- Manage, in partnership with medical, first aid and lost time cases to help ensure desired outcomes.
- Lead the implementation and maintenance of the plant’s safety management system to meet OHSAS 18001 and ISP 14001 requirements.

**JOB REQUIREMENTS (Knowledge/Skill/Experience)**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Safety, Engineering, Science or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of Safety, Environmental, Engineering or related experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of Occupation Health & Safety Act R.S.O. 1990, c.O.1 and all relevant regulations
- Willingness to work on any shift and additional hours as required
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Strong leadership, analytical and problem solving skills
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite, SPARC and/or other software

- Skills and abilities to provide technical and administrative guidance for activities in defined scope of responsibilities.

- Proficiency at preparing and writing various types of reports.
- Presentation skills appropriate for management level.
- Knowledge of all applicable codes, regulations, policies and procedures governing the assigned functional areas.
- General contracting experience/skills/managing contractors.
- Knowledge of hazardous material and waste regulations
