Summerhill Market is a boutique grocery store chain in Toronto that specializes in scratch-made prepared foods and on-trend ingredients. Our stores go above and beyond a typical grocery store by offering an extensive rotating selection of ready to eat gourmet meals, freshly baked goodies, and curated hard to find groceries.
We are searching for someone to join our meat department team. This position will require handling of excellent raw ingredients and packaging and processing raw meat items according to our daily orders, and customer’s needs, using various equipment and methods.
**Duties & Responsibilities**:
- Package meat products by weight or by piece, manually or machine assisted, following outlined specifications
- Perform basic quality control checks including measuring, weighing, counting, and evaluating product or package appearance; examining and inspecting containers, materials, and products to ensure specifications are met
- Mark and label products, using printed labels and automated machines
- Load materials and products into package processing equipment
- Operate and maintain various machinery (examples: ILPRA gas flush machines and Unifiller equipment)
- Follow all health and safety standards; maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary meat department; keeping the work area and machinery clean, using designated cleaning solutions and hand tools as required
**Skillset requirements**:
- Experience in the food & grocery industry is required
- Willing to learn new skills such as how to cuts & prepare meat.
- Knowledge in Health & Safety protocols related to sanitation and food handling is required
- Food Handler’s certification is an asset
- WHMIS certification is an asset
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Able to work in a temperature-controlled environment (10°C)
- Able to lift, push, pull up to 50lbs
- Able to work standing for 8.5hrs/5 days a week
