**The Career**.**
As the Wellness Lead at a VVA Retirement Community you will report to the Wellness Manager. You will be responsible for providing basic healthcare services to Community Members. This role ensures all Community Members’ health and wellness is effectively and consistently monitored for changes. Liaise with outside healthcare professional, as required. You will make working and living at VVA Whitby Shores an awesome experience by continually working to improve the customer service experience and developing an innovative working environment for Team Members.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Provides care in a compassionate and caring manner within a diverse environment
- Provides a safe and secure environment for Community Members, their families and Team members
- Utilizes infection control and prevention measures
- Collaborates with other members of the Wellness team to ensure standards of care and practice are met
- Observing and implementing VVA’s Wellness policies, Occupational Health & Safety requirements, as well as excellent health and safety practices
- Observe, report and record significant changes, which require intervention, or changes in the Community Member's care plan
- Liaise with Public Health, House physician, pharmacy, and, physiotherapy in the absence of the Wellness Manager
- Conduct monthly, quarterly and annual audits as required
- Deliver and administer medications to Community Members as required
- Promote, assess and maintain semi-annual individualized wellness assessments/programming for Community Members
- Establish priorities and make ethically sound decisions to ensure safe Community Member care
- Respond to emergency situations to promote optimal outcomes by recognizing changes in the Community Member's health status
- Document Community Members data to ensure continuity in the provision and coordination of care
- Supervisory role in leading PSWs and others wellness Team Members
- Assist with meal service including monitoring for choking
- Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations
- Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with older adults, families, team members within the community
- Ability to work well independently and to exercise sound judgment
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
- Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with Community Members, team members, volunteers and other members of the community and public
- Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and safety requirements of the position
- Other duties as assigned
**Qualifications**:
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Certified to administer medication and intramuscular injections
- Experience working with older adults an asset
- Knowledge of RHA, 2010 considered an asset
- Current police check-vulnerable sector
- Valid CPR/First Aid certification
- Knowledge in MS office (outlook, word, excel)
- Ability to effectively communicate with Community Members and Team Members
- Ability to manage time effectively with little supervision
- Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.
- Positive attitude, enthusiasm and energy with the ability to work as a team
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
- Available for call-ins
- Able to bend, stretch, sit and stand for long periods and lift a maximum of 50 lbs
