CASA Mental Health is an established non-profit organization delivering holistic, culturally-safe wrap-around mental health services to Albertans and their families. CASA provides mental health service to the missing middle - mental health treatment for diagnosed children and youth, in between prevention and promotion in primary and community care, and acute treatment in hospital.
CASA’s team of mental health professionals are trauma experts committed to delivering service in collaboration with community partners. This includes assessment and treatment for up to 4,000 children, youth and their families each year, from community outreach settings to intensive treatment programs.
**About the Role**
The Adolescent Day Program aims to improve the social and learning skills of youth with serious mental health and/or addiction challenges. The program provides group, family and individual therapy while also providing education in a small classroom setting. The ADP team supports youth in grades eight to 12 who are experiencing severe challenges managing or regulating their emotions and behavior. The team includes an occupational therapist assistant, mental health therapists, classroom behaviour specialists, psychiatrists, teachers, clinical managers, speech language pathologists/assistants and more. The program is delivered in partnership with Edmonton Public Schools.
The Classroom Behaviour Specialist works with a multidisciplinary team to promote the educational success, adaptive behaviour, mental health, and well-being of adolescents and families. They do this by providing timely behavioural analysis, modification and coaching for families or allied professionals caring for adolescents with suspected or diagnosed learning disability, developmental delay or executive dysfunction. With a focus on assessment, treatment, behavioural analysis, case review, therapeutic intervention and consultation, this position works closely with Mental Health Therapists to support screening, case management, delivery of treatment and achievement of treatment plan.
The Classroom Behaviour Specialist will:
- Develop and implement specialized individual treatment plans for children with learning disabilities, developmental delays or executive dysfunction. Plans are created using a variety of treatment approaches, with an emphasis on effective, evidence-based behavioural principles.
- Be an active, contributing member of an interdisciplinary team to support assessment, treatment, behavioural analysis, therapeutic intervention and consultation.
- Conduct observations and report on students/patients while they are in the school setting.
- Recommend behavioural strategies for school-age children.
- Perform clinical interviews with caregivers and teaching staff to obtain background information.
- Provide hands-on modelling and coaching to family members as determined by the Mental Health Therapist and guided by the treatment plan.
- Complete weekly phone contacts with families as assigned to review treatment strategies and gather updates for the treatment team.
The successful Classroom Behaviour Specialist will also possess the following experience, knowledge, skills and abilities:
- Strong assessment, treatment, case management and critical thinking skills.
- Effective communication and problem solving skills and ability to self-reflect as it relates to working within a demanding environment.
- Practical experience in behavioural analysis and modification, strategy development, coaching families and allied professionals.

**Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work or education.
- Advanced training and/or degree relating to children’s mental health and education preferred.
- Minimum of three years of practical experience in an educational or children’s mental health treatment setting, with a particular emphasis on dual diagnosis, learning disability, developmental delay and executive dysfunction.
**Conditions of Employment**
- A satisfactory Child Intervention Check.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or exemption on the basis of a protected legal ground.
- Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA), as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
