We are currently seeking a qualified individual for the following opportunity in our Montreal office:
CLAIMS COUNSEL / CLAIMS HANDLER, SPECIALTY INSURANCE - TORONTO
The Claims Counsel / Claims Handler, reporting directly to the Vice President, Claims Specialty Insurance, will be responsible for day to day handling of claims within the Specialty Insurance and Casualty departments.
**Responsibilities include**:

- Coverage evaluation.
- Drafting coverage letters and other documents.
- Setting claim reserves.
- Communicating with insureds, counsel, brokers, independent adjusters and claimants.
- Managing litigation and negotiating settlements.
- Authorizing payments as required.
- Acting as a resource for various business units.

**Qualifications**:

- LL.B. or J.D. from a recognized university (preferred but not required).
- 2-3+ years of experience in private practice specializing in insurance law and/or experience in claims handling.
- Experience and/or interest in handling Property & Casualty claims an asset.
- French language skills an asset.
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
