Reporting to the Senior Vice-President, Commercial & Wealth Credit Risk, Global Credit Risk Management, the Vice-President, Real Estate Risk Management (VP) is responsible for the adjudication and management of risk rated credits in the Canadian Commercial Real Estate portfolio. The VP is responsible for leading and managing a team of credit adjudicators specialized in commercial real estate lending.

What You’ll be Doing

Responsible for the adjudication of credit risk in in the Canadian Commercial Real Estate portfolio with respect to risk rated credits. That responsibility includes:
- Transactional adjudication of credits within the incumbents’ Delegated Credit Approval Authority (DCAA).- On-going review of credits within their portfolios to include timely revisions to risk ratings of same and stipulation of follow-up action plans with respect to existing or potential watch list credits.- Identifying potential high-risk accounts and ensuring that all such credits are effectively transitioned to the appropriate high-risk credit group.- Actively participating in and supporting the development and maintenance of a comprehensive Service Level Agreement with origination and product groups reflecting the business goals of each and the overall CIBC Risk Appetite.- Ensuring the adjudication group is equipped with the necessary skills, competencies and attributes to enable functional execution as a high performance team.- Accountability for the execution of risk rating methodology and limits being applied against the designated portfolio.- Establishment and maintenance of management reporting to ensure that risk adjudicators are operating within delegated authorities, service level agreements and CIBC’s lending policies and practices.- Management and observation of the exception reporting process to ensure that credit irregularities are identified and resolved on a timely basis.- Following of the procedures concerning Global Reputational and Legal Risk.- Actively support and participate in all initiatives to improve client experience targets.- Work with client-facing partners to attend at least 10 priority client meetings/events to identify growth opportunities and promote CIBC brand. People Management:
- Build, develop and lead high performing teams of credit adjudicators to fulfil the mandate.- Provide strong leadership to direct reports by establishing clear goals and objectives and by monitoring progress against expected results.- Provide on-going coaching and training to ensure employees are capable of performing at or developing to the expected professional standards.- Create and maintain a centre of expertise of highly skilled modelling and analytical roles to support key issues, risk decisions and reporting.- Identifying and leveraging opportunities for systems and process improvement within the departments as well as more broadly across CIBC in partnership with various internal stakeholders and external resources.- Initiate, foster and maintain ongoing dialogue and partnership within the Global Credit Risk Management executive management team, corporate governance groups, origination and product groups.- Initiate, foster and maintain ongoing dialogue and partnership with key industry stakeholders, including small business and professional associations and risk management professionals and other financial institutions.- Keep abreast of regulatory and other developments as well as research globally and assess and highlight their impacts to CIBC.- Provide leadership and mentorship not only within risk management but also across the organization.
