Situated on unceded, traditional and ancestral xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish), and səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) territories in Vancouver, Canada, Emily Carr University is a world-renowned learning and research community dedicated to the education of artists and designers.
- The Foundation Area, embedded within the Faculty of Culture and Community, provides the first-year, interdisciplinary curriculum for all the undergraduate majors by way of a holistic approach to making, learning, and community building. The Faculty of Culture and Community also offers a unique and academically-oriented BFA in Critical and Cultural Practices (CRCP), which enhances interdisciplinary artistic practices with a firm grounding in history, theory, and criticism; and a minor in Social Practice and Community Engagement (SPACE), which combines community partnerships and project-based learning to model, perform, and enact new and more relational ways to live in the world together. Within this interdisciplinary framework, we are seeking artists, media practitioners, and designers with research and practices in one or more of the following areas:
- Design, including interaction, communication or industrial design practices.
- Animation practices, including traditional, experimental, and/or 3D.
- Illustration practices.

**SUMMARY**

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Teaching core and elective studio courses in the Foundation curriculum.
- Teaching and mentoring students across multiple year levels at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.
- Active participation in curriculum and program development and planning.
- Providing service to the Faculty and university-wide governance systems by participation in various committees and working groups, as well as being an active and engaged member of the University community.
- An active research, scholarly, and/or creative practice.

**Required Qualifications**

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- MFA or equivalent graduate degree in a related field, or the equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
- The ability to teach a range of practice-based studio courses at the first year level, from both interdisciplinary and disciplinary perspectives.
- Evidence of work in advancing decolonization, Indigenization, and equity in institutional settings.
- Strong communication and facilitation skills.
- The ability to work collaboratively and across disciplines.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Experience in the following areas will be considered an asset:
- Teaching across both studio and critical studies curriculum.
- Working with first-year students, including the ability to relate and connect across cultures and ages, and understanding the embodied complexities and experiences of this demographic.
- Emily Carr University is designated by the University Act of BC as a Special Purpose Teaching University, with a focus on a practice-based pedagogy in art and design.
