As a Specialist you’ll support EPCOR’s vision to be a company where _safety matters most_ and demonstrates our commitment to _put safety first in everything we do._**As a key member of our Health & Safety Shared Services team, you’ll lead injury management and occupational health strategies, support complex return-to-work cases, and drive proactive occupational health initiatives across EPCOR. From ergonomic assessments and medical surveillance to Workers Compensation Board (WCB) case management and psychological safety, you’ll be at the forefront of protecting and upholding EPCOR’s commitment to safety and employee well-being
What you’d be responsible for
Reporting to the **Manager, Health & Safety Shared Services**, you will play a key role in supporting EPCOR’s workplace health, wellness, and safety goals. You’ll collaborate with Occupational Hygienists, Health & Safety (H&S) Advisors, Corporate HSE, and Technical Training teams to deliver proactive, compliant, and employee-centered health strategies.
- Providing initial support for physical and psychological injuries, including triage, first aid guidance, health education, rehabilitation resources, and coordination of treatment resources.
- Maintaining regular communication with injured or ill employees and coordinating case management across Workers Compensation Board (WCB), working closely with HS Advisors, Abilities Management, Managers, HR, and Unions.
- Representing EPCOR in liaising with WCB on claims adjudication, appeals, and psychological safety cases.
- Facilitating return-to-work plans, including accommodation and job demands analysis, in collaboration with internal stakeholders.
- Managing occupational health and wellness programs, including pre-employment testing, rehabilitation strategies, and medical surveillance activities such as pulmonary function tests, chest x-rays, audiograms, biological monitoring, and respiratory fit testing for exposure to hazards like lead, asbestos, silica, and noise.
- Communicating and aligning occupational health and wellness strategies with EPCOR’s broader business plans, ensuring measurable performance outcomes.
- Support continuous improvement by analyzing performance metrics and identifying opportunities to enhance occupational health outcomes.
- Leading ergonomic assessments for both office and field-based roles and maintaining updated Job Demands Analysis documentation.
- Advising managers and HR on workplace health-related issues, including conflict resolution, legislative interpretation, and psychological injury cases.
- Monitoring EPCOR’s WCB account, analyze premium rates, and recommending strategies to reduce costs and improve outcomes.
- Championing a culture of safety and wellness by modeling EPCOR’s values and promoting a Zero Injury/Illness mindset.
What’s required to be successful
**Required (Mus**t** Haves)**:
- A **Bachelor’s** Degree** (course work and/or accreditation in Occupational Health, Disability Management, Human Resources, Vocational Rehabilitation or related health discipline) is required.
- Experience that includes:
- **10**+**years of experience** in **occupational health**, including workplace injury reporting, managing employer responsibilities related to workers’ compensation, and navigating insurance and premium implications.
- Demonstrated experience in **WCB case management**, including filing, appeals, and navigating complex claims.
- Trained in performing **ergonomic assessments** for both office and field-based roles.
- Strong understanding of **legislation and regulatory compliance** related to occupational health and safety.
- Highly proficient in **developing and delivering training** programs and standards related to injury prevention and health promotion.
- Excellent **communication**(verbal and written)**and presentation skills**, with the ability to express technical information to diverse audiences — including pitching services and articulating the value-add of occupational health initiatives to the business units.
- High level of **confidence, professionalism, and initiative**, especially when advising senior leaders or navigating sensitive employee health matters.
- Able to collaborate across and within **multi-functional teams** and building strong internal partnerships with unions, Human Resources, business units, etc.
