Pre - Production Technician

**JOB SUMMARY**:
The Pre-production Technician is responsible for taking part in receiving all forms of incoming lenses and frames. They are responsible for processing the product up to a point where each type of job is ready for the start of order entry, production or invoicing. They must complete the receiving and processing tasks with accuracy and without delay. They are also responsible for invoicing uncut or E&M work and preparing it for shipping thru the various couriers.
Other duties include but are not limited to, using frame tracing equipment to create and attach shapes to each corresponding order as well as working in various stations within the laboratory department to prepare lenses for cutting into eyeglass frames.
**Working Relationships**:
- Strong team relations with Customer Care and finishing team
- Under the day to day guidance and direction of the local supervisor
- Day-to-day reports to local lead where applicable
**MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES**
Standardization:
- Take part to receive un-pack and electronically scan or enter all incoming orders, frames or lenses.
- Sort incoming work, identifying new orders, frames to follow, third party coating work, RX or stock credits.
- Receive frames for work in process (FMTC) into DVI system, accurately matching to the correct order, and label accordingly
- Process RX credits for work in process where applicable, following SOP.
- Take lenses received from outsource vendors to the holding area and match back to jobs paper or tray, and take to the next workstation
- Deliver new orders, frames or lenses, to the next workstation with sense of urgency and prioritization
- Identify urgent or problem jobs and make appropriate communications, verbally and/or electronically, and/or using standardized stickers or forms.
- When necessary, use web access links to look up incoming or delayed shipments from outsource labs, in order to plan workflow.
- Good working knowledge of DVI screens; competently processes all types of redo, credits, add notes, cancel jobs, tray change, account changes
- Understands when jobs require a call to be placed to accounts and communicates to CCS appropriately.
- Invoicing RX jobs and packing up to send out thru various couriers without delay
**Produce quality eyewear through utilizing the Quality guidelines**:
- Inspect uncut lenses against cosmetic and optical standards finish layout and blocking.
- Tracing a frame/pattern, as well as reprocess order, attaching pattern and verifying all information.
- Edge lenses into frames, with proper bevel placement, groove position and sizing. Care taken to preserve condition of new and customer’s own frames. Proper frame alignment must be maintained.
- Tinting and UV coating to patient specifications and HOYA standards, understanding availability and options.
- Grooving
- Drilling
- creating and saving formulas, proper drill assembly for plug and screw mount
- Safety monogramming and mounting.
- Responsible for basic operation, cleaning and ongoing maintenance of laboratory tools and equipment using established maintenance procedures and calendars.
- Job rotation is required on a regular basis
- Assist Customer Care, lab or other departments where needed.
**Product / Technical Knowledge**:
- Strives to improve technical knowledge daily and continually applies that knowledge in the production of all eyewear.
- Utilizes product knowledge to determine the best manufacturing process for routine and special orders in order to produce top quality eyewear.
- Performs multiple tasks simultaneously with accuracy and thoroughness despite time pressures and customer volume.
- Is attentive to detail with all measurements, calculations, equipment settings and defective product.
- Takes the initiative to notice and follow-up on discrepancies; suggests improvements; recommends solutions and does what is necessary to ensure customer satisfaction.
- Operates the system inputting all lab statistics with accuracy and attention to detail.

**Maintains Lab Appearance / Safety**:
- Takes pride in the appearance of the facility and shows initiative in keeping the lab and surrounding areas clean, organized and safe.
- Complies with all safety/regulatory requirements ensuring supplies/chemicals are stored and used per chemical safety program. Keeps management informed of potential safety opportunities (i.e. broken tiles, equipment, etc.)
- Demonstrates safe work practices.
**EDUCATION**
- High School Graduate /GED or equivalent experience
- Optical training helpful
**RELEVANT SKILLS/EXPERIENCE**
- Optical background helpful
- Technically inclined/ machinery experience an asset.
