Veterinary Technician

Kingfisher International Inc. is an internationally recognized veterinary contract research organization located in the GTA. We assist with the research and development of pharmaceutical drugs for dogs and cats. We are looking to expand our team of full-time veterinary technicians.
**Responsibilities (including but not limited to)**:
- Assist our veterinarians with: medical, surgical and dental procedures; preparing animals, instruments and equipment for surgery; administering and monitoring anesthesia.
- Perform blood collections, urine cystocentesis, IV catheter placements
- Conduct feline neuters and canine/feline basic dental cleanings under the supervision of a veterinarian
- Observe research animals daily, report any abnormalities to the veterinary and research teams
- Participate in various research activities including dosing, post-dose monitoring, pharmacokinetic blood collections
- Responsible for daily animal treatment regimes, including administering controlled drugs in a responsible manner
- Clean animal rooms and pens, feed and water animals daily, participate in the daily socialization and health management activities of all animals
- Perform necropsy procedures and tissue collections
- Opportunities to join various committees including the socialization committee, animal care committee and training committee.
**Skills and Qualifications for Veterinary Technician Applicants**:
- Completed a Veterinary Technician/Technologist Diploma from an accredited program (registered is not required); foreign trained veterinarians welcome to apply
- Previous technician experience preferred but not required; we will train on all procedures, new grads welcome
- Ability to handle periods of stressful procedures and situations and to remain calm and focused
- Physical effort: work requires lifting and carrying animals up to 50 lbs. Walking or standing for extended periods of time; frequently working in a bent position
- May be exposed to odours, noises and animal feces; also may be exposed to a risk of bites, scratches and zoonotic diseases.

- Starts at $24.00/hr, but is commensurate with tech experience and research experience
- Full-time, permanent position; willing to accept part-time positions as well
- General daily shift is 8am - 4pm
- Rotational weekend work (2 on, 4 off)
