**Peer Support Worker**
**Contract: 3 Months**
**Job Summary**:
We are hiring **Peer Support Workers** to support individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, and mental health challenges. This role uses lived experience, harm reduction principles, and peer-based approaches to create a safe, welcoming environment for our guests. _Lived experience with homelessness or substance use is a strong asset and encouraged._
**Responsibilities**:
- Provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space for shelter guests
- Engage authentically with individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, and crisis
- Respond to overdoses using proper protocols (including oxygen & naloxone administration)
- Build trust and support guests using peer-informed approaches
- Monitor the environment for safety and wellbeing
- Assist with conflict de-escalation using trauma-informed methods
- Connect clients with services, resources, and additional supports
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
- Complete documentation, incident reports, and daily notes
- Support general shelter operations as needed
- Complete daily Programming.
**Qualifications**:
- _Lived experience with homelessness, addiction, or recovery (strong asset)_
- Knowledge of harm reduction and overdose response
- Ability to remain calm and empathetic in high-stress situations
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Understanding of trauma-informed and person-centered support
- Ability to work effectively in a team in a fast-paced shelter environment
- Reliability, professionalism, and a commitment to supporting vulnerable populations
**Contract Details**:
- **3-month contract.**
