**Position Summary**:
NOVA provides young people between the ages of 16 - 24, who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless with a safe, affordable, and supportive living environment. Operating primarily from a Harm Reduction philosophy, the program provides 20 beds as a low-barrier housing solution to those who are faced with multiple challenges. Part-Time Youth Workers provide ongoing day-to-day support to the youth residing at NOVA. Through the use of positive role modeling and effective communication skills, the Part-Time Youth Workers assist NOVA youth in increasing their skills toward independence.

**Responsibilities**:

- Build positive relationships/rapport with youth to encourage healthy lifestyle alternatives (through active, supportive listening).
- Completion of accurate written daily documentation (logbook entries, contact notes, incident reports, medication book entries).
- Adapt services to meet the needs of diverse populations as per unit policy.
- Support youth to achieve goals as defined in their individual goal plans.
- Deliver services in accordance with unit and agency policies and procedures.
- Ensure youth are aware of and understand House rules and respond accordingly and maintain a safe, secure environment.
- Ensure residents are provided with adequate food in accordance with the Canada Food Guide.
- Assist in maintaining a clean environment for residents and staff.
- Liaise with guardians, program partners and other professionals.
- Participate in unit staff meetings.

**Qualifications / Skills**:

- Completed, or working towards a diploma in a related human services field.
- 6 months of experience working with youth.
- Knowledge of harm reduction, addictions, and strength-based philosophy.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Able to work within a team and effectively deal with crisis situations.
- Able to work shift work including weekends, holidays, and **awake** overnights.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
- Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check.
- General computer knowledge (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook).

**Conditions of Employment**:

- This is a 1-year contract opportunity, with the possibility of renewal.
- The hours of work are 7:00 am - 3:00 pm, 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm, 6:00pm - 11:00pm, and 11:00 pm - 7:00 am shifts.
- The position requires frequent standing, walking up and down stairs, and occasional lifting.
- This position is to start as soon as possible.

**Salary**:
The starting wage is $19 per hour. Shift differential will be paid for hours worked between midnight (12:00 am) and 6:00 am
