_Youth Moving Forward_ is a community development project that will consult Indigenous youth to discover their career, job, education and training aspirations. The project aims to support Indigenous youth, aged 13 to 30, to articulate and achieve their goals through formal and informal learning using a culturally safe, holistic model that promotes resilience and purpose. The project will facilitate community engagement to encourage Indigenous youth to find meaningful and sustained employment, or to prepare for further education or training. The project will be guided by Indigenous Principles of Learning and BC Health guidance in promoting physically, socially, emotionally and culturally safe learning spaces for participants, volunteers, guests and staff.
**Employment and Duties**
Reporting to the Catapult Youth Program Coordinator, the Catapult Youth Education and Training Assistant will:
- support Indigenous students and clients to secure employment, advance in their careers or enter post-secondary education;
- support students navigating the challenges of community-based studies, including providing technical supports to students engaged in online education and/or training.
- support and coordinate communications between youth and organizations involved in all elements of program delivery;
- engage in virtual and/or in-person liaison and establish relationships with youth, educational institutions, training organizations, businesses and employers, and local indigenous community members and leaders, to learn what education and training is most needed.
- facilitate and supervise cultural engagement and community service activities, and occasional field trips, led by cultural experts and/or Indigenous knowledge-keepers;
- assist with various administrative duties, including maintaining records of attendance and other data required by the funder; and
- promote the Learning Hub and its education and training opportunities through personal outreach, social media, etc.
This is a one-year position with potential to be extended depending on funding. The position is conditional upon a satisfactory performance evaluation after three months (probationary period), and maintenance of a satisfactory Enhanced Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) for the duration of the contract.
Your normal working days are negotiable and normal working hours are between 8:30 and 5 p.m. with adjustments to meet programming requirements. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required. Depending upon program needs, your place of work will be either the Dze L K’ant Learning Hub office (#203) at 188 Main Street, Smithers, or Dze L K’ant Cultural Centre, 3955 3rd Avenue, Smithers. You will work a total of 14 hrs a week at $28 per hour.
