**Job Synopsis**

The Thrift Shop Summer Job Retail Associate**has primary responsibility to provide operational support for day-to-day and overall operation of the warehouse and retail sections of the Thrift Shop. Some computer/administrative work may be assigned at the discretion of the Shop Manager or supervisor.

**Eligibility Criteria**:

- You must be aged between 15 and 30 years old on the start date of the job.
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada or a person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.

**Qualifications**:

- Self-motivation and willingness to work as a team with staff and volunteers
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
- Customer service experience is an asset
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with a variety of people; friendly and helpful with customers, and supportive and appreciative with volunteers
- Ability to work independently with little supervision
- Physically fit: able to lift 25 pounds
- Firm commitment to accountability, attention to detail
- Working knowledge of excel spreadsheets
- Familiarity with Social Media, FB, Instagram

**Key Responsibilities**

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Answer incoming telephone calls, check phone messages throughout the day

Sales Floor
- Cover for the cashiers as needed for breaks
- Ensure the front of the Shop is tidy, organized and well-maintained
- Helping the clerks on sales floor when needed.
- Helping with cashing out and closing shop. (making sure doors are locked, customers are gone, and sign is turned off.)
- Attending requests from customers and volunteers.
- Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Inventory Management
- Assist with quality control of stock on sales floor with regular culling of merchandise per the direction of the Manager, Shop Assistant or Assistant Manager
- Assist the Receiver with the processing of donations, this includes assisting donors if necessary and thanking donors for their generosity
- Pricing/repairing donations for the sales floor

Office Administration
- Social media posting and content development as needed
- Marketing/promotion assistance as needed

Base salary: $17

**Additional Information**

**Thrift Shop Policies**:

- Shifts are either 9:00 - 5:30, or as outlined by the Manager. (Please arrive at least 5 minutes before shift). Sundays and Holidays off.
- Breaks - Half hour unpaid lunch break and 2 X 15minute paid coffee breaks.
- Smoking - only in designated areas during scheduled breaks.
- Cell phones to be used during breaks only and in private areas. (ie: not in lunchroom)
- Dress Code - Clothing must be clean and respectable. No short shorts, no revealing clothing and **must wear closed toe shoes.**

**Challenges**:
This position is physically demanding, requiring lifting of boxes, assisting donors unload their cars and often lifting boxes overhead. The incumbent spends many hours on their feet.
