**Role Description**
Marinus Services ULC is seeking a full-time, on-site Claims Specialist, supporting marine terminal operations across the globe who will work in person at our Halifax office. You will be responsible for managing a variety of claim types, coordinating end-to-end communication with all stakeholders.
This position requires close attention to detail, strong documentation practices and proactive coordination with stakeholders across multiple time zones. You will work closely with internal systems to maintain organized records and deliver regular claim status updates to terminal leadership. You will also assist in developing incident summaries and contribute to recommendations for future risk mitigation.
Your work will be key to ensuring timely resolution of claims; supporting business continuity and upholding the safety and compliance standards of marine terminal operations.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Coordinate the investigation and management of vendor/customer/visitor injury claims (third-party liability)
- Collect and collate incident reports, witness statements, and photographic evidence from the investigation team
- Work directly with insurers to ensure complete documentation and timely response
- Reconcile vessel damages and handle related property damage claims
- Manage OTR damage claims involving external parties such as truckers and chassis operators
- Coordinate with terminal operations and transportation companies to resolve incidents
- Handle property damage claims involving cargo handling equipment, building structures, office equipment, and IT assets
- Oversee equipment damage claims caused by third-party actions and support liability recovery
- Maintain organized and accurate claim records in internal systems
- Provide regular and quantified updates to leadership regarding active claims and outcomes
- Assist with incident summary reporting and contribute to risk mitigation efforts
**Qualifications**
- 4+ years of claims handling experience (marine, transportation, or property/casualty preferred)
- Related Bachelor’s Degree, Diploma, Certification or direct training across multiple years
- Proven ability to self-lead and manage claims independently under pressure
- Strong understanding of insurance principles, claim documentation, and resolution workflows
- Hands-on experience with third-party liability claims, including injury, OTR, and equipment damage
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with internal teams, vendors, insurers, and legal counsel
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Experience with claims management platforms is an asset
- Familiarity with California claims law (COGSA) is a strong advantage
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized, structured, and dependable with attention to detail
- Ability to collaborate effectively across time zones and adapt your schedule when required
- Ability to travel to USA when requested is required
**Work Environment**
- This position is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia
- Core collaboration is with Pacific Time Zone teams; some flexibility required for meetings and coordination across other time zones
- Effective virtual communication with terminal staff, legal counsel, and insurers is a core part of the role
- Occasional travel to the USA
**Physical Demands**
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and nights when necessary
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to site locations if requested
- Ability to sit for extended periods
- Verbal and hearing skills to understand English and work safely
- Some occasional travel may be required
- Team player and able to respond and adapt if schedule changes with short notice
