The Kinghaven Farm’s Temporary Beekeeper's Assistant role is a temporary position who will report to the Kinghaven Farm’s Beekeeper. The successful applicant will be responsible for carrying out a wide variety of tasks including but not limited to, inserting honeycombs; assisting with and learning the procedure of hive inspections and honey retrieval through the use of smoke pots; planning and executing the collecting and harvesting of honey, pollen, wax, propolis, royal jelly and other related ancillary products (“Honey Products”); aiding in the removal of vermin and administration of medicine, food and required treatments to maintain the health of the colony as a part of our Integrated Pest Management System; destroying diseased bee colonies in accordance with OMAFRA protocol; planning and executing the process of splitting colonies in order to establish new bee colonies; planning and assisting with the winterization process and other end of season preparation; carrying out other garden management and bee yard landscaping activities; and other tasks as may be assigned.

**Requirements**:

- No experience necessary;
- Drivers licence preferred;
- Ability to work independently and part of a team;
- This is a very demanding position suitable for a hard worker; must be able to be physically comfortable routinely sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending and able to occasionally lift objects in excess of 50lbs;
Seasonal position: Current - end of October with the possibility of an extension;
Hours: Monday to Friday; 7am - 5pm (negotiable) and weather dependent

Must supply own CSA approved work boots. On the job machine and safety training will be provided.
