Benchman / Benchperson / Saw Filer

S&R Sawmills has a long history of Custom Cutting in the Lower Mainland. We are a family run business that was established in 1963 and we currently have a workforce of over 300 employees on a large strip of the Fraser River. **Role Description**:
Reporting to the Head Filer, Benchperson employees are responsible for maintaining Band Saws.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Sharpen, solder/weld tips, tension, and dispose of saws. Cast babbitt for saw guides and knives, maintain certain saw unit functions, and change out dull or damaged saws when required
- Knowledge of functionality, maintenance, and alignment associated with a Canter, Circular Saw 6ft & 8ft Band Saw, Trim Saw, Gang Saws, Edgers, and Chippers
- Maintain the mill’s saws in accordance to WorkSafeBC safety standards and ensure that the mills have a sufficient number of sharp saws to cut with
- Understanding of the preventative maintenance processes related to saw shop and sawmill machinery
- Strong eye for detail in regards to saw maintenance
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- To report equipment malfunctions to management
- Identify, protect, and report safety hazards to management or a member of the safety committee
- Follow all Safe Work Procedures
- Other duties as assigned by the Head Filer

**Qualifications, Experience and Skills**:

- Previous experience as a Benchperson
- Physical demands require lifting of up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with good communication skills
- Safety first attitude
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work (Mill is transit accessible)

**Eligibility**:

- Must be legally allowed to work in Canada
