We’re looking for a hands-on Metallurgist who enjoys working side-by-side with operations, maintenance, and technical teams to keep a processing plant running well and continuously improving.
This role is ideal for someone who likes to understand problems at the source, work through them with the people closest to the process, and follow solutions through testing, implementation, and stabilization. You’ll support day-to-day plant performance while also contributing to improvement initiatives that strengthen reliability, recovery, and cost control over time.
**What You’ll Be Working On**
**Supporting Daily Operations**
- Monitor metallurgical performance including recovery, grade, throughput, and reagent usage.
- Identify process deviations and work directly with operators and supervisors to address them.
- Provide technical support across shifts as needed to maintain stable plant performance.
- Participate in daily production meetings and clearly communicate risks, constraints, and opportunities.
**Process Improvement & Optimization**
- Analyze plant data to identify trends, losses, and areas for improvement.
- Plan and support plant trials, test work, and controlled process changes.
- Help develop and maintain operating parameters, control limits, and setpoints.
- Recommend practical improvements that reduce variability, improve recovery, and manage costs.
**Laboratory & Sampling Support**
- Work closely with the laboratory to ensure sampling accuracy and assay quality.
- Review metallurgical balances and validate data integrity.
- Support improvements to sampling protocols and QA/QC practices.
**Reporting & Documentation**
- Prepare routine metallurgical reports and performance summaries.
- Maintain clear documentation for trials, test work, and process changes.
- Contribute to operating procedures, work instructions, and technical guidelines.
**Safety & Collaboration**
- Lead by example in safety and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in hazard identification, incident reviews, and risk assessments.
- Collaborate with maintenance, engineering, geology, and operations teams to support overall site performance.
- Support training and knowledge transfer to operators and technicians.
**What You Bring**
**Qualifications & Experience**
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Typically 3-7 years of metallurgical experience in a processing plant, concentrator, or refinery.
- Practical understanding of comminution, separation processes, and process control.
- Experience working in an industrial or mining environment is an asset.
Skills & Approach
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn data into practical actions.
- Comfortable working in the plant and engaging directly with operators and supervisors.
- Proficient with data analysis tools such as Excel and plant historians.
- Clear communicator who can explain technical concepts in plain language.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a production environment.
Work Environment
- Industrial processing plant setting.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
- Ability to stand, walk, and access operating areas for extended periods.
Why This Role
You’ll be part of a collaborative site team that values practical solutions, shared ownership, and continuous improvement. This role offers the opportunity to have a visible impact on plant performance while working closely with people who take pride in how the operation runs day-to-day.
